Amgen is seeking a Senior Manager for Search and Data Analytics to join 'Enterprise Engineering and Analytics' group at Amgen's Tampa or Thousand Oaks offices. We are looking for a passionate professional who is up to the test of blending the fast-changing technology landscape of Data and Insights with complex and high-impact space of pharmaceutical analytics.

Search and Analytics Manager is responsible to guide a team of talented engineers to develop and maintain next generation Enterprise Insights and Search Platforms for structured and unstructured data using NLP and Machine Learning. The role also requires engaging in architectural decisions, reviews of design, scrum leading, growing the team via targeted hiring to build the development team, and operations of the platforms

A successful candidate will be a self-starter who can work in a dynamic environment, who brings in exceptional architecture experience and abilities in building large, high-scale applications using Machine Learning. Candidate must be uncompromisingly detail oriented, well organized and effective in verbal and written communications.

  • Manage a product team of 5-12 Platform Engineers to design, develop and maintain next generation Search and Insights platforms at Amgen using NLP and Machine Learning
  • Direct the engineering team in design, execution and operation of the platforms - by providing guidance, vision, strategy and direction
  • Collaborate with product managers to develop new features, and drive adoption and re-usability of the platform across enterprise - throughout the product lifecycle
  • Stay current with technology developments in the Search and Insights industry, and help steer the evolution of platforms
  • Establish and maintain productive relationships with peer organizations, partners, and software vendors
  • Work with customers and business stakeholders to understand the needs and deliver on their highest priority features and requirements incrementally
  • Work with PMO and effectively communicate with management team on the platform charter and scope
  • Manage budget responsibilities, development of staff, resource planning and goal setting for the team
  • Provide guidance, career development, and mentoring to technical team members, and help achieve maximum potential

Travel: Travel up to 10% may be essential

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree and 2 years of Information Systems experience


Master's degree and 4 years of Information Systems experience


Bachelor's degree and 6 years of Information Systems experience


Associate's degree and 10 years of Information Systems experience


High School Diploma / GED and 12 years of Information Systems experience

Preferred Qualifications:

Technical Skills
  • A demonstrated passion for working with technology and empowering organizations through data
  • 5+ years of management experience in building and guiding a strong technical team of engineers
  • 8+ years of Application Architecture and Development experience - with strong Java/J2EE, Machine Learning and Cloud (AWS) skills
  • Experience in delivering highly scalable web applications and micro services, preferably using Docker and Kubernetes ecosystem on AWS
  • Experience in relational database, and NoSQL databases like SOLR/MongoDB
  • Experience working on Angular/React/Node and REST API's
  • Experience in DevOps, Continuous Delivery, and Agile development
  • Experience working in a Software Product Development environment is a huge plus
  • Experience creating a culture of technical excellence by leading code and design reviews, promoting mentorship, and identifying and promoting educational opportunities for engineers
