Unity Biotechnology is a nascent integrated biopharmaceutical company discovering and developing medicines to treat chronic diseases associated with aging. We are located in the San Francisco Bay Area and are seeking to hire a manager for our histology and histochemistry group. This group plays a critical functional role supporting programs to discover and develop innovative drugs for an emerging and exciting biology. A successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to independently manage and contribute to the functions of the histology group, provide the experience and insight to build both efficiency and new capability, and contribute to the highly motivated and engaging group of scientists interrogating novel biology and searching for senolytic drugs.

Responsibilities:
  • Directly supervise IHC team members
  • Manage histology projects and priorities across IHC team members
  • Manage companywide project requests and provide cross-functional communication for histology-related projects
  • Contribute to experimental design and execution, analysis and interpretation of data
  • Develop and implement new assays, functionality and technology for project needs
  • Oversee sample/data organization logistics and assay/data QC
  • Manage the maintenance and organization of histology equipment and reagents
  • Work hands-on in the lab to contribute to project execution and lab maintenance


REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory, chemical, physical or biological science and at least 5 years relevant work experience
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a histology technologist
  • Minimum 2 years of experience managing histopathology lab functions
  • Experience managing direct reports
  • Thorough understanding of all aspects of histology/pathology
  • Experience with IHC autostainers (e.g. Leica Bond, Roche Ventana)
  • Familiarity with multicolor IF and other multiplexing technologies
  • Proficiency with histological image analysis and statistical analysis, experience with image quantification tools such as Aperio or Visiopharm

Creativity and the ability to lead and/or work within an interdisciplinary team in order to achieve technical and corporate milestones
