Job Summary

Vanderbilt Ophthalmic Contract Research Organization (VO-CRO) is looking for an experienced Scientific Operations Manager to join our leadership team. This person will be responsible for the management and coordination of VO-CRO’s day to day operations, to include the planning of experiments, supervision of research staff, and development of proposals and progress reports, among other duties. The ideal candidate will have a strong scientific background and demonstrated project management skills.

VO-CRO is a research enterprise dedicated to producing the highest quality pre-clinical data using state-of-the-art technology in ophthalmic disease models. We are located in the thriving city of Nashville, TN, and are a part of the Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC). VUMC is home to a variety of world-class research laboratories and centers, which VO-CRO leverages in order to focus our efforts on the quality and consistency of our studies.

Responsibilities and Duties

Primary responsibilities include project management, personnel management, and project execution:

  • Designing experiments and managing project timelines
  • Drafting statements of work and progress reports
  • Creating and maintaining research protocols
  • Coordinating procurement of necessary materials
  • Managing, training, and evaluating multiple direct reports and partial reports
  • Conducting weekly business meetings with VO-CRO staff
  • Mastering all scientific methods required for VO-CRO contracts
  • Troubleshooting and optimizing experimental procedures
  • Managing acquisition, organization, and analysis of data
  • Participating in experimental procedures, as required

Additional responsibilities include contract management, research support, compliance management, and VO-CRO promotional support:

  • Serving as point of contact for contract analysts and legal affairs representatives
  • Managing client communication during contract negotiation process
  • Liaising with regulatory offices to maintain VO-CRO compliance
  • Assisting in development and distribution of VO-CRO marketing materials
  • Organizing and executing client site visits
  • Providing support for academic research effort

Qualifications and Skills

Required Education and Work Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 5 years related experience

Preferred Education and Work Experience

  • Master’s degree and/or 7 years related experience
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) or other relevant certifications
  • Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in life sciences related field
  • Experience working in a laboratory environment
