Position Summary

This is a contract position with potential to convert to direct hire.  The Research Associate will assist the Microbiology group with research conducted on our Phase 3 echinocandin antifungal drug, rezafungin, as well as discovery-stage antiviral compounds from our CloudbreakTMimmunotherapy program.  Routine work will involve characterizing the susceptibility and resistance profiles of compounds on a variety of fungal and viral strains.  Data generated will be recorded in laboratory notebooks and in electronic databases.  This position will also share responsibility for the maintenance of laboratory reagent stocks, strains, culture media, etc, This position reports to the Director, Microbiology.


  • Cultures and maintains stocks of fungal and viral strains
  • Conducts susceptibility testing (e.g. CLSI, EUCAST) of antifungal compounds
  • Maintains mammalian cell lines for use in viral assays
  • Propagates and titers viral strains
  • Performs DNA/RNA extractions, PCR/RT-PCR, and gel electrophoresis
  • Analyzes DNA sequencing results from Sanger or whole genome amplifications
  • Selects and characterizes drug-resistant strains
  • Prepares or places orders for various culture media and laboratory reagents
  • Records experimental data in an organized laboratory notebook and in electronic databases

Minimum Qualifications      

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Microbiology, or related area, a combination of relevant education and applicable job experience may be considered
  • 0-3 years of relevant industry or academic laboratory experience
  • Basic microbiology and molecular biology laboratory skills
  • Ability to follow protocols and read primary literature
  • Ability to accurately record experimental data
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs
  • Detail-oriented, strong work ethic, and ability to work independently

Preferred Qualifications      

  • Experience in handling BSL-2 bacterial, fungal, and viral pathogens
  • Familiarity with standardized antimicrobial susceptibility testing assays
  • Experience in mammalian tissue culture
