Description

Drug Product Development is responsible for designing and developing formulations that enable delivery of AbbVie's candidate molecules in a dosage form suitable for preclinical or clinical studies. We have a challenging opportunity for a Senior Scientist based in North Chicago, IL., reporting to the Director of Formulation Sciences.

AbbVie is seeking a highly motivated, collaborative scientist with a proven track record in the characterization of solid dosage forms.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Design and execute characterization studies that enable the design and understanding of NCE formulations in preclinical and clinical development.
  • Interface to drug product development teams to ensure that biopharmaceutical and physicochemical considerations are incorporated into formulation design.
  • Advance the development of in vitro tools and modeling approaches to understand the key rate processes that govern small molecule dissolution and oral absorption


B asic:

  • B S (typically 14+ years of experience )or MS (typically 12+ years of experience;) or PhD (typically 6+ years of experience) in Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, or Chemical Engineering.

Preferred:

  • Experience in the characterization and formulation of small molecules.
  • Experience in the characterization of amorphous solids, especially the dynamics of amorphous solids and crystallization behavior.
  • Experience with analytical approaches toward physicochemical characterization of pharmaceutical dosage forms (i.e. HPLC, DSC, TGA, PXRD, dissolution, etc.).
  • Fundamental understanding of physicochemical properties as related to formulation design.
  • Fundamental understanding of oral drug absorption and pharmacokinetics.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team setting.
