Job Details

The Translational Oncology group at AbbVie uses advanced methods to discover biomarkers and implement translational medicine strategies to progress AbbVie's innovative oncology pipeline. Oncology is a key therapeutic area for AbbVie, with a portfolio consisting of three marketed products - Imbruvica, Venclexta, and Empliciti - and a pipeline containing multiple promising new molecules that are being studied in nearly 200 clinical trials in 19 different types of cancer. We are currently seeking highly motivated individuals to join our team to support the development and implementation of translational medicine strategies for AbbVie sponsored clinical trials. As a member of both discovery and clinical development project teams he/she will have the opportunity to work in a highly collaborative environment to support projects across all phases of clinical development.

The key responsibilities will be:
  • Support or lead development and implementation of translational medicine strategies for oncology compounds, including evaluation of pharmacodynamics and sensitivity/resistance markers
  • Partner with clinical and discovery groups to execute high quality biomarker strategies in the clinic
  • Support or lead multi-disciplinary Translational Oncology subteam(s) to enable cross-functional collaboration on biomarker implementation
  • Evaluate, interpret, and present clinical biomarker data to guide project decisions and direction
  • Drive efforts to evaluate and implement novel, state of the art technologies and concepts for clinical biomarker studies
  • Implement standardized and cutting edge tools in clinical trials to establish target engagement, develop patient selection biomarker strategies, and inform back translation research
  • Design and perform experiments to elucidate resistance mechanisms that can be developed into biomarkers and new therapeutics
  • Author the translational research portions in key clinical documents including protocols/informed consents, clinical study reports, health authority briefing books and submissions
  • Provide hands-on clinical trial support, including supporting sample management, lab work, and report generation
  • Function as an internal expert in oncology biomarkers and precision medicine and actively educate other cross-functional team members through knowledge sharing
  • Present and report data for internal governance, and external meetings and publications


Level and compensation will be commensurate with experience.

Basic:
  • PhD with 4+ years of related work experience
  • Master's Degree with 10+ years of related work experience
  • Bachelor's Degree with 12+ years of related work experience

Preferred:
  • Strong scientific background in tumor biology and apoptosis with good knowledge of -omics applications supported by publication record in these areas; expertise in hematologic malignancies is valued
  • Clinical development experience interacting with teams conducting clinical trials
  • Demonstrated leadership in translational sciences, employing pharmacodynamic, predictive and exploratory biomarkers
  • Experience in analysis of large datasets and knowledge of biostatistics
  • Experience in assay development, qualification and implementing biomarker assays on diverse platforms including gene expression profiling, NGS, IHC, flow cytometry
  • Understanding of Companion Diagnostic development is a plus
  • Effectively work in a cross-functional team environment, interacting with various levels within the organization as well as vendors/academic sites/KOLs
  • Organization, orientation to details, and effective time management with an ability to adapt to changing priorities
  • Excellent written and oral presentation skills in the English language
