Amgen has an opportunity for a Director of Marketing Competency to be part of the newly created Marketing Excellence team within the Center of Commercial Excellence. The mission of this role is to build the "Best for Amgen" marketing capabilities to elevate and develop our US brand marketers. This position plays a significant role in the organization to establish and sustain needed capabilities through this current time of integration and into the future as we expand our portfolio with new product launches. The Director of Marketing Competency is a unique opportunity for an experienced marketer who has a passion for improving patient and business outcomes. This individual will work across teams and functions, will influence at all levels, and ultimately will make a real lasting impact to the organization. This position reports to the Executive Director of Marketing Excellence and partners closely with the US brand teams.

Job responsibilities include:
  • Manage and influence change both internal as well as in marketing overall to identify future development opportunities
  • Help define and pull through new marketing organization capabilities into US and global teams.
  • Define strategies for building future capabilities; 40% of this role will be focused on realizing the marketing capability strategy through excellent execution and management of the strategic roadmap aligned to global vision.
  • Inspire others to take action through authentic leadership, passion, and commitment to making a difference.
  • Partner with brand leadership and global team to expand marketing competency model to career pathing, coaching and feedback within marketing
  • Partner with cross-functional partners to the business to pull through cross-functional commercial processes such as Commercial Data and Analytics, Value and Access, Field Excellence, etc.
  • Drive core competency building, coaching, and team effectiveness.
  • Partner with global training team to own and execute marketing training initiatives including on-boarding and on-going individual development. Facilitate workshops and training; engage partners to participate in the facilitation of marketing training on a broad platform.
  • Responsible for vendor identification, price negotiation and content development for core programs to meet the needs of functional-specific Marketing competency.
  • Manage, design and develop curriculum for internal Brand marketing training from a capabilities standpoint
  • Communicate and align priorities through governance and organizational change initiatives across the business.
  • Foster a marketing community through cross-BU/Function initiatives including on and offline channels.
  • Encourage Organizational Excitement Through Communication Strategy & Messaging
  • Drive accountability, participation and engagement across the Marketing team to sustain behavior change and skill implementation
  • Use entrepreneurial thinking to find new and better ways to accomplish goals. Drive for excellence in execution.
  • Build strong working relationships across Marketing stakeholders to gain alignment to customized functional-specific marketing training
  • Create metrics to measure success of programs and/or to serve as guidelines for readjustment as necessary due to dynamic nature of the business.
  • Own and Manage marketing excellence budget working with external and internal partners, including finance to deliver on target.
  • Develop an environment of best practice sharing and standardization across brands
  • Some Travel Required

Basic Qualifications
  • Doctorate degree and 4 years of experience in brand marketing at a multi-matrixed organization

  • Master's degree and 7 years of experience in brand marketing at a multi-matrixed organization

  • Bachelor's degree and 9 years of experience in brand marketing at a multi-matrixed organization

Preferred Qualifications
  • 10+ years of progressive marketing or brand experience and a leadership style that fuses inspiration with a passion for making a difference
  • Direct to Consumer or Consumer Packaged Goods marketing experience
  • Ability to tell a compelling story and inspire others through training, best practice and coaching
  • Comfortable working in the 'grey area' and defining and building capability
  • Learning agility and emotional intelligence
  • Team player, coach, leadership skills
  • Executive presence: can quickly establish credibility with and influence ED / VP level staff
  • Excellent oral, written and presentation skills with ability to explain complex concepts clearly to a variety of audiences, including senior management
  • Skill in handling multiple responsibilities, priorities, tasks and projects simultaneously
  • Experience with creative advertising and media agencies, US market payor / access environment and relevant Amgen therapeutic knowledge are considered a
  • Experience across a variety of marketing competencies, a strong ability to communicate effectively, drive organizational change, and influence without authority. They will have a passion for marketing best practice as well as coaching and training.
