The Bioanalysis and Biotransformation Department at AbbVie has an opening for a Scientist II/Sr. Scientist I position in North Chicago, IL. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading DMPK-BA's effort on quantitatively defining mechanisms of Antibody-Drug Conjugate (ADC) action and cellular exposure/response profiles of small molecule drugs. This candidate will work primarily with in vitro cellular model systems and various quantitative analytical tools to provide data that will inform mathematical models for predicting exposure-response profiles in vivo.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with Discovery project teams to uncover the cellular mechanism of action of small molecule, biologic and ADC drug candidates.
  • Build and routinely operate in vitro cell assays that provide quantitative measurements for mechanistic PK/PD model building activities
  • Partner with pharmacology, and toxicology groups to establish predictive in vitro systems
  • Lead efforts to develop reliable analytical techniques to support kinetic assay platforms
  • Understand operations and build workflows for the cellular distribution group
  • Work with scientific integrity
  • Bring in new technologies and expand the group's scientific knowledge
  • Ensure timely, and accurate execution of experiments

Level will be based on education and years of experience

Basic:
  • PhD (0+ years), M.S (5+ years), B.S. (7+ years) in Systems Biology, Pharmacology, Molecular/Cellular Biology, Biochemistry, Analytical Chemistry or related field
  • Proven experience working with biological materials, cell systems and quantitative techniques
  • Proven experience working with imaging technologies, biologics and flow cytometry
  • Proven ability to work in a team environment and an ability to collaborate successfully across other groups
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Highly motivated and self-driven with the flexibility to quickly adapt to different projects

  • PhD (2+ years), M.S (9+ years), B.S. (11+ years) in Systems Biology, Pharmacology, Molecular/Cellular Biology, Biochemistry, Analytical Chemistry or related field
  • Experience with managing and mentoring
  • Understanding of robotics, IT workflows, LIMS systems, and electronic laboratory notebook

Key Leadership Competencies:

  • Builds strong relationships with peers and cross functionally with partners outside of team to enable higher performance.
  • Learns fast, grasps the "essence" and can change course quickly where indicated.
  • Raises the bar and is never satisfied with the status quo.
