Job Details

The Department of Oncology and Inflammation Research, Amgen South San Francisco, is seeking a creative, self-motivated, diligent Scientist to discover and develop T cell targeted therapies to treat solid tumors. The Scientist's main responsibilities will be to carry out research to identify and validate new targets, evaluate the activity and cellular mechanism of action of therapeutic candidates, and to lead project teams. In this role, the Scientist will set program goals and timelines, design, perform and analyze experiments, supervise and mentor one or more research associates, and collaborate with team members across different departments and research sites to achieve program goals. The Scientist will initially contribute to assessment of existing targets and programs but will be encouraged and expected to initiate novel programs at the target discovery stage and to contribute to establishing new platforms for target discovery. The Scientist will be expected to present at leading scientific conferences and to publish in top-tier journals and will have the opportunity to participate in programs through the early clinical development stage.

Basic qualifications:

Doctorate degree
OR
Master's degree and 4 years of scientific experience
OR
Bachelor's degree and 6 years of scientific experience

Preferred qualifications:
  • PhD or MD with 4+ years of postdoctoral research in cellular biology or immunology
  • Broad knowledge of cancer biology with demonstrated independence in critical thinking and scientific achievement, such as through first author publications in top-tier journals and awarded grants
  • Direct experience with T cell redirecting antibodies, including technical expertise with in vitro cell culture and in vivo models, multi-color flow cytometry, and imaging methods
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Prior experience managing or mentoring junior scientists
  • Flexibility to work in teams to troubleshoot key issues, achieve changing project goals and meet timelines
