AveXis, a Novartis company, is dedicated to developing and commercializing novel treatments for patients suffering from rare and life-threatening neurological genetic diseases. Our initial product is a proprietary gene therapy approved by the US Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of pediatric patients with SMA. In addition to developing a treatment for SMA, AveXis also plans to develop other novel treatments for rare neurological diseases, including Rett syndrome and a genetic form of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis caused by mutations in the superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1) gene.

The Senior Manager, Financial Reporting and Accounting responsible for AveXis US full cycle accounting activities including US Record to Report (R2R) and US Requisition to Pay (R2P) teams (8 - 10 FTEs). The position reports the Division Accounting Lead (DAL).

Responsibilities

  • Ensure AveXis Reporting and Accounting process designs are consistent with best practice and aligned with the Novartis' Global Reporting and Accounting standards (Global Novartis Blueprint, Novartis Accounting Manual (NAM), Novartis Financial Controls Manual (NFCM), SOX certifications).
  • Build a strong AveXis/Novartis relationship and act as point of contact for AveXis full cycle accounting matters such as, reconciliations, intercompany process, asset management, NPMR, Revenue Recognition, AP processing, T&E.
  • Oversee monthly close activities and data validation analysis including BSR and FcRS reporting package. Ensuring timelines, productivity and quality standards are met.
  • Review account reconciliations; validate reasonableness of account balances, ensure support for open items, document action plans, track and resolve aged items, and escalate pending issues as necessary.
  • Understand and apply observations to operational issues in compliance with International Accounting Standards (IAS) and the Novartis Accounting Manual (NAM).
  • Drive process/ continuous improvement initiatives in both R2R and R2P.
  • Partner to to establish effective internal FRA controls and provide appropriate evidence. Interact with internal and external auditors to provide documentation and proper support as requested.
  • Support fact-based decision-making and pressure test and challenge business initiatives and assumptions on an ongoing basis.
  • Support local AveXis team where needed to ensure successful new product launches (e.g., revenue recognition topics, revenue deductions processes, etc.).
  • Lead AveXis US R2R and R2P teams (8 to 12 FTEs) and exemplify AveXis values.
  • Promote a service / solution-oriented mindset.
  • Promote a strong and control environment and follow up on audit issues and implement correcting measures.
  • Maintain strong knowledge of all relevant compliance policies (i.e. Code of Conduct, CIA, Data Privacy, SOX, etc.) and ensure compliance in all job activities. Ensures proper accounting of expense recognition for the business.


Qualifications

  • University level degree in Business Administration/Accounting/Finance or MBA desirable.
  • Chartered Accountant desirable.
  • +10 years of Accounting/Reporting experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively.
  • Experience of managing projects driving performance.
  • Good people skills, leadership exposure.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent planning and organization skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills commensurate with the need to work closely with all departments and at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to maintain the highest degree of confidentiality and integrity, represent the company's high ethics, moral behavior, and professionalism.
