Summary

An entry/mid-level opportunity to join the VI Next group as a R&D Associate. As a member of the team, your responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, making targeting vectors to modify mouse embryonic stem cells, phenotyping new mouse models, and working closely with other scientists to support projects as they progress through the pipeline. Ideal candidates will have strong molecular biology skills, an understanding of immunology, as well as some lab experience. A keen attention to detail and excellent communication skills are required.

Responsibilities

The new member will perform the following duties:

• Molecular cloning: PCR, Maxi prep, mini prep, restriction digests, Cas9 digests, Gibson assemblies, gel electrophoresis, sequence analysis

• In vitro testing: cell culture (established and primary), transient transfections

• Protein and other bio-assays: Western blotting, ELISAs, basic flow cytometry

In addition to these laboratory skills, the team member will:

• Maintain accurate records in an electronic notebook

• Analyze data using Prism and/or Excel

• Present experimental results in small and large group meetings

Requirements

• The ideal candidate will have a BS and 2-5 years of experience or MS with 1-3 years of experience.

• She/He should have some molecular biology experience and a solid understanding of genetics.

Candidates must be well organized with a strong attention to detail paired with excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

• Candidates must be flexible and able to multi-task while handling shifting priorities.

• Candidates should have experience with Microsoft Office and web based genomic databases (Ensembl, NCBI, UCSC genome browser, SMART, etc.).

• Knowledge or experience with TaqMan, NGS, and/or CRISPR is a plus! A good grasp of immunology would be an advantage.
