Job Summary

Amgen's Therapeutic Discovery organization is seeking an enthusiastic team-oriented Research Associate to join the Protein Technologies group at our South San Francisco site. Protein Technologies is responsible for designing, planning and executing on the generation of key enabling reagents to support early discovery of small and large molecule therapeutics and cutting-edge novel modalities. The Research Associate will be responsible for generating DNA constructs for target validation, lead generation and lead characterization against therapeutic targets. Will work closely with other cell biologists, protein biochemists and colleagues in expression, purification and analytics groups within Therapeutic Discovery. Specific responsibilities include:
  • Applying molecular biology techniques to generate DNA constructs.
  • Handing off DNA preps to downstream users.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree
Associate's degree and 4 years of related scientific experience
High school diploma / GED and 6 years of related scientific experience

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology, Biochemistry, Bioengineering, Chemistry or a related discipline and 0-1 years of scientific laboratory experience.
  • Broad training in molecular biology techniques (PCR, transformation, DNA preps) with hands on experience in cloning.
  • Experience with DNA sequence analysis software
  • Protein expression experience.
  • Automation and high throughput cloning experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Desire to be a team player in a cross-functional environment.
  • Ability to thrive and adapt in a dynamic environment.
