As a Technical Project Manager, you will report to the Director of Information Systems based at Amgen's Capability Center in Tampa, FL. At Amgen, our mission is simple: to serve patients. You will provide project management support, handles project portfolio and departmental budgets, defines and implements project and portfolio related processes, develops and reports periodic project and financial indicators relating to goals, risks, costs and trends. You will be accountable for complex multi-functional information technology related programs and projects in areas such as infrastructure services, enterprise services management, enterprise platform services, and computing services. This will be done through the application of standard project management methodologies in the development, initiation, planning, execution, control and closing of projects.

The applicant works across IS (Information Systems) teams to lead and deliver management services through all phases of the Project Management Lifecycle (PMLC), which include: initiation, planning, development, execution, control and rollout. S/he is responsible for successful delivery, cost management, resource management, and risk management to drive business outcomes that provide valuable contribution to users. The Sr. Project Manager is expected to use good judgement and blend traditional project management principles with an Agile development approach for these complex, critical projects where possible.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead complex, enterprise-level programs and projects across multiple teams to achieve high level of performance and quality

• Work closely with team to provide coaching and mentoring in taking projects successfully through the Project Management Life Cycle (PMLC) process and deliver against their project timeline, scope, and budgets

• Own establishment and execution of project plans, risk management plans, and other project governance processes and procedures. Champions ongoing process improvement initiatives to implement standard methodologies for Agile Project Management.

• Direct the supervision of project team members, including vendors, around project allocation, scheduling, problem/conflict resolution and related project activities. Will be required to assist in the establishment and remediation of large complex programs.

• Maintain budgetary responsibility of projects

• Identify creative and efficient ways to reach project goals.

• Form positive relationships and work reciprocally with multiple areas across the enterprise

• Participate in the strategy, planning, and execution by directing and coordinating program and project activities. This includes working reciprocally with colleagues to ensure goals are accomplished and drive valuable business outcomes

• Provide guidance and mentorship to junior and external worker project managers with extensive experience in directly leading complex projects or programs.

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree


Master's degree & 2 years of Project Management experience


Bachelor's degree & 4 years of Project Management experience


Associate's degree & 10 years of Project Management experience


High school diploma / GED & 12 years of Project Management experience

Preferred Qualifications:

• Strong skills in team leadership, governance, and conflict management

• Proven track record of success in multiple complex projects and/or programs as well as management / mentoring of Project Managers.

• Experience with all stages of global projects related to Infrastructure. Estimating, Planning, Execution, Closing.

• Strong program/project management skills within a diverse toolset of methodologies (Agile, Scrum, DevOps etc.) including risk mitigation strategies

• Handle multiple priorities and build a strong network and relationships up to the executive levels across IT functions and the business.

• Possess strong learning agility and technical leadership - ability to breakdown complex topics issues and into actionable plans for team execution (quickly come up to speed on technologies)

• Strong vendor management skills from RFP ideation to implementation management

• Possess strong financial acumen ability to forecast complex costing models, and lead overall financial portfolio (LE, Capital/Expense, etc.)

• Experience leading change in a complex, matrix organization

• Excellent analytical, problem-solving and presentation skills

• Experience with SAP - to provide regular status on project financial spend
