Summary

The Sr. MSL/FMS role embodies our medical mission in becoming a trusted, agile partner who demonstrates extensive scientific expertise and deep knowledge by expertly engaging in relevant dialogue and delivers timely, high impact data and insights that advance the science or accelerate access, optimize medical practice and drive appropriate adoption of BMS medicines. The Sr. MSL/FMS role is a field-based position and it is anticipated that the majority of their time will be spent in the field with external customers.
The primary role of the Sr. MSL/FMS is to develop relationships and maintain contacts with Thought Leaders (TL) and Healthcare Providers (HCP) within their geography. The purpose of interactions is to engage in meaningful scientific exchange that will provide patients access to BMS medicines, ensure their safe and appropriate use through peer to peer discussions aligned with medical strategies and needs expressed by stakeholders, and to facilitate research. The scientific dialogue focuses on scientific/clinical information around disease management, treatment landscape, and BMS products in a fair and balanced way and includes appropriate clinical and value related discussions.
In addition, Sr. MSL/FMSs support the medical organization by coaching and mentoring other MSL/FMSs, by leading the execution of defined medical projects (i.e. Medical Plan activities) within or outside the assigned territory and by involvement in regional/national activities (e.g. US FM projects).

External Environment and Customer Focus
Role model in developing and maintaining relationships with TLs, appropriate HCPs, and access stakeholders, within a given geography to answer specific clinical and/or scientific, unsolicited product and HEOR related questions. Sr. MSL/FMSs will use various channels for interactions (face to face 1:1 or group presentation; virtual or phone, etc). Demonstrate the ability to coach and train others and have examples of positive outcomes from interactions with their peers.
Demonstrate superior expertise in using available scientific resources and presentations. Effectively present information to TLs/HCPs/access stakeholders with ability to respond to questions, ensuring medical accuracy and compliance with local procedures, company ethical and legal guidelines and directives.
Actively assess the medical and healthcare landscape by meeting with TLs/HCPs/access stakeholders to understand their needs and expertise. Continuously update knowledge in treatment strategies, products, unmet medical needs, clinical trials, health economics outcomes research and scientific activities. Understand the competitive landscape and evolving healthcare delivery models and actively prepare to address informational needs of customers.
Collect and provide meaningful medical insights and impact back to the medical and commercial organizations that are actionable in support of strategy development. Set the example and coach others on how best to do this.

Contribute to the Medical Plan
Provide input to the development of the Medical Plan and execute certain Medical Plan activities as assigned in a timely manner.
Develop geography-specific Field Medical and TL Interaction plans based on therapeutic area objectives and TL needs.
Adopt institution/account planning approach and contribute to cross-functional institution/account plans aligned to local Field Medical plan. Assist in coaching new hires in this process.
Contribute to development and delivery of scientifically meaningful medical programs/projects in line with the local Medical and Field Medical plan.

Provide Medical Support
Assist in the initial and ongoing medical/scientific area and product specific training and provide key scientific updates to internal stakeholders (e.g. Commercial, Regulatory, Pharmacovigilance, Legal, HEOR, Value Access & Payment)
Establish close, customer-centric, compliant collaboration and effectively manage communications/relationships with cross-matrix team
Provide scientific support at promotional meetings by presenting scientific and clinical data and by giving scientific educational support to BMS-contracted speakers (if applicable).
Act as coach and/or mentor to (i.e. new hire) MSL/FMSs.

Support Clinical Trial Activities
Support Interventional and Non Interventional Research (NIR) studies (e.g. identification and assessment of potential study sites) as agreed with home office medical and Global Clinical Operations (GCO) and as defined by the study scope document.
Provide recommendations and insights to clinical development team on study and site feasibilities within the therapeutic area based on knowledge of the field and through direct contacts with potential investigators, as agreed with home office medical and GCO. Serves as a Field Medical trial lead and as a resource to study team.
Actively support CRO sponsored studies as agreed with home office medical and GCO and as defined by the study scope document.
Support HCPs in the ISR submission and execution process and study follow-up as agreed upon with home office medical and GCO.
Ensure that BMS Pharmacovigilance procedural documents are understood and applied by investigators of local studies, and alert appropriate BMS personnel to any identified Adverse Events.

Experience Required
MD, PharmD, DNP, PhD, etc. with experience in a specific Disease Area or with a broad medical background Or Science graduate with substantial and relevant pharmaceutical experience
Extensive knowledge and/or experience of healthcare and access environments

Knowledge Desired
In-depth disease area knowledge with an understanding of scientific publications consistent with therapeutic area
In-depth knowledge of a scientific or clinical area, patient treatment trends, competitive landscape
In-depth knowledge of pharmaceutical industry including compliance and regulatory guidelines
In-depth knowledge of relevant BMS products highly desirable
In-depth knowledge of the medical organization and products
In-depth knowledge of clinical trial design and process
In-depth knowledge of the national and regional healthcare and access environment
Knowledge of HEOR core concepts and the ability to communicate value data
Excellent English language skills, spoken and written

Experience Desired
A minimum of 4 years of clinical and/or pharmaceutical experience INCLUDING a minimum of 2 years Field Medical experience
Ability to work independently and act as a collaborative team player
Expertly translating scientific or clinical data into an understandable and valuable form to assist HCPs to best serve their patients
Excellent communication and presentation skills to present scientific and/or clinical data to researchers or HCPs at a level commensurate with audience
Leadership, coaching and training skills
Broad experience in developing peer-to-peer relationships with TLs, scientists and other healthcare professionals
Ability to quickly and comprehensively learn about new subject areas and environments consistent with role

Essential Qualification
Ability to drive a company-provided car is an essential qualification of this position. Candidates must be able to drive a BMS-provided vehicle between locations (often great distances apart), and arrive at each location ready and able to enthusiastically and efficiently demonstrate an applied knowledge of pertinent health care industry trends. Candidates must possess a high level of ethics, integrity and responsible and safe driving history.
