We are seeking a Senior Associate Scientist to join our research team and contribute to the expansion of Amgen's Neuroscience group at the Cambridge Research Center in Cambridge, MA. Our work aims to translate insights from human biology and genetics into innovative therapies for disorders of the nervous system.

Primary responsibilities for this position will be to develop and execute imaging-based assays (histology, immunofluorescence, immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization), microscopy, and image analysis in support of the discovery and advancement of drugs for the treatment of neurodegenerative disorders and pain. Additional responsibilities will include in vivo rodent work, design of experimental protocols and procedures, coordinating studies across functions, analyzing data, and interpreting complex datasets. Many opportunities will exist to present results in group and multidisciplinary project team meetings and to attend seminars.

Basic Qualifications:

Master's degree and 3 years of scientific research experience

OR

Bachelor's degree and 5 years of scientific research experience

Preferred Qualifications:

- BS in neuroscience, pharmacology, biology or a related discipline and 5+ years of laboratory experience in industry

- Experience with rodent handling, including dosing (IV, SC, IP, and PO), transcardial perfusion, and tissue collection

- A working knowledge of neuroanatomy and all aspects of pathology and imaging-based methodologies, including tissue processing (fixation, embedding, sectioning), various staining techniques (immunofluorescence, immunohistochemistry, histological stains, in situ hybridization), and microscopy expertise

- Expertise in utilizing software-aided image analysis (ImageJ, MatLab, Halo, ZEN, Imaris)

- Ability to aid in the design of scientific experiments and effectively document scientific results

- High degree of motivation, independence, creativity, and problem-solving ability

- Excellent communication skills, written and verbal

- Demonstrated ability to work and learn in a team/matrix environment
