About Adimab

We are the leading technology provider for antibody-based drug discovery, focusing solely on our partners without pursuing an internal product pipeline. Since 2009, we have partnered with 65 pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, generating more than 280 therapeutic programs. Our technology has been transferred and implemented at Biogen, GSK, Lilly, Merck, Takeda and Novo Nordisk, and our funded discovery partners include leading pharmaceutical companies, such as Boehringer Ingelheim, Celgene, Genentech, Gilead, Kyowa Hakko Kirin, Novartis, Regeneron, Roche, Sanofi, and Takeda. We have also partnered with many early-stage venture-backed companies, including Alector, Cullinan Oncology, Dragonfly, Pliant, Potenza, Tizona, iTeos and others, as well as mid-size public biopharmaceutical companies such as Acceleron, Five Prime, Innovent, Jounce, Mersana, Scholar Rock, Seattle Genetics, Surface Oncology, and others.

Our integrated antibody discovery and engineering platform provides unprecedented speed from antigen to purified, full-length human IgGs. We offer fundamental advantages by delivering diverse panels of therapeutically relevant antibodies that meet the most aggressive standards for affinity, epitope coverage, species cross-reactivity, and developability. We enable our partners to rapidly expand their biologics pipelines through a broad spectrum of technology access arrangements.

Role

We are seeking an accomplished scientific leader with analytical expertise to lead our Protein Analytics team. Reporting directly to the CSO, the Director of Protein Analytics will oversee a team of 10+ researchers with the responsibility of rapidly and efficiently producing high quality characterization data to support both internal and external partners. The position requires a high degree of cross-functional teamwork, technical excellence, and vision to implement method development and novel scientific approaches based on literature reviews, industry trends, and internal research and development efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Technical expert and strategic thinker: Have direct experience with, or experience managing, a variety of analytical techniques for protein characterization, including mass spectrometry, analytical chromatography, and bio-layer interferometry. Partner with key business stakeholders (internal and external) to consistently provide quality data. Contribute to scientific discussions at all levels and across all functions within the organization, as well as help troubleshoot complex technical challenges. Ensure the Protein Analytics Group is prepared to meet partner expectations and emerging needs.  Identify new research directions and process improvements.
  • Seasoned leader: Lead and develop a team of scientists to successfully deliver on company objectives and obligations to partners. Create a team-oriented, empowered group that views quality and service as top objectives. At the same time, foster an innovative environment that welcomes diverging opinions and nurtures new ideas. Communicate honestly and directly. When necessary, align cross-functional stakeholders around common goals through effective communication, organizational skills, and attention to detail. Represent Adimab during external customer meetings and business development opportunities.

Needed upon hire

  • Ph.D., or equivalent practical experience, plus 10 years of experience in a research and development leadership role focused on protein analytics (preferably with antibodies)
  • Ability to set and drive big picture strategy while also having the capability to provide technical guidance to the team
  • Ability to recruit, inspire, and motivate a research team to work together as a cohesive and productive group
  • Proven track record driving operational efficiency and creating a results-driven team
  • Thinks and communicates coherently and logically
  • Known as an honest and ethical leader who give credit where it is due
  • Decisive, makes tough calls quickly when circumstances require it
  • Identifies the strengths of the team, capitalizes on them by delegating appropriately
  • Solves problems while maintaining morale, thinks outside the box
  • Hardworking, leads by example, gets down in the trenches and works alongside team as needed
  • Ability to adapt management style to match the needs of direct reports
  • Deep experience with therapeutic antibody characterization, from lead panel characterization to pre-clinical candidate selection, and the analytical techniques commonly used therein
  • Experience transitioning antibody leads from discovery through to GMP manufacture
  • Deep understanding of protein chemistry, particularly with respect to developability characteristics (e.g. aggregation, polyspecificity, posttranslational modifications)
  • Current knowledge of expression systems (ranging from bacterial to mammalian) and relevant chromatography techniques
  • Strong publication record, peer reviewed or patents
  • Knowledge of cGMP, industry best practices (including operational excellence principles) preferred
  • Deep understanding of Antibody Discovery field and workflow within Adimab (post recruitment) to help improve process efficiency, robustness, and productivity
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate, interpret, and present complex scientific data
