Job Details

Known for its scientific and operational excellence, Regeneron is a leading science-based biopharmaceutical company that discovers, invents, develops, manufactures, and commercializes medicines for the treatment of serious medical conditions. Regeneron commercializes medicines for eye diseases, high LDL-cholesterol, atopic dermatitis and a rare inflammatory condition and has product candidates in development in other areas of high unmet medical need, including rheumatoid arthritis, asthma, pain, cancer and infectious diseases.

This person will work in Toxicology in Tarrytown, NY. Regeneron Pharmaceuticals' Department of Drug Safety and Pharmacometrics is offering a 2-week externship in toxicologic pathology. It is focused towards residents currently in anatomic pathology training programs or Veterinary Pathology fellows (who have previously completed a pathology residency), who wish to further their training in and exposure to toxicologic and rodent pathology. Opportunities may be available for highly motivated fourth year veterinary students with experience in pathology and a demonstrable interest in toxicologic pathology. Trainees receive microscopic pathology experience with a variety of strains of rodents (mouse and rats), as well as experience with digital pathology and image analysis in the context of discovery and preclinical safety assessment.

The externship may provide time and opportunity for small pathology projects and will also include observation of various phases of a toxicology study, conversations with senior scientists working in allied disciplines such as toxicology, safety pharmacology, Quality Assurance and participation in relevant departmental meetings.

The site is focused on all phases of drug development and is staffed with 6 board-certified pathologists with state of the art microscopic imaging and analysis facilities. This training will give a preview of the activities of a toxicologic pathologist in a pharmaceutical company. Access to transgenic rodents provides a strong background in animal species that are not traditionally assessed in the academic residency training.
