We are searching for a highly motivated Associate Scientist to join our Protein Analytics team at the AbbVie Bioresearch Center in Worcester, MA. Our team is responsible for the development, qualification and execution of analytical methods to provide product and process understanding for biological entities from discovery through commercial stage.

As an Associate Scientist, you will be a part of the high-throughput analytics and automation group (HTTAG) within the Protein Analytics department that is mainly focused in supporting routine analytical testing in addition to the method development based on various spectroscopic and separation platforms (PA800, UPLC, HPLC, CAD and mass spectrometry), high throughput analytical platforms (Octet-384, GXII-Touch, Maurice, iCE3), and various robotic liquid handlers (Protein Maker, Hamilton Star, Tecan) to better understand AbbVie early and late phase products and processes throughout the drug development lifecycle. You will also contribute to the development and testing of analytical assays and continuous improvement and innovation within the group and the PA department.
Key Responsibilities Include:
  • Develop, optimize, execute, troubleshoot, qualify, and transfer analytical test method based on chromatographic and capillary electrophoretic separations for early and late phase pipeline programs.
  • Independently generate precise, reliable and reproducible data.
  • Demonstrate experimental design capabilities and strong data interpretation skills.
  • Organize and document experiments and results in an electronic lab notebook.
  • Author technical memos and technical reports.
  • Efficient IT skills (MS office, EXCEL, other instrument related software to support work).

Position will be hired based on level of experience.
  • Bachelors or Masters degree in biological sciences or chemical engineering with typically 0-4+ (BS), 0+ (MS) years of relevant experience in academic or biotech/pharmaceutical industry setting.
  • Deep understanding and direct experience with separation techniques such as SEC, IEC, HIC, RP-HPLC, MCE-SDS, CE-SDS, CZE, and icIEF.
  • Proven understanding and hands-on experience with various spectroscopic platforms and instruments (PA800, UPLC, HPLC, CAD and mass spectrometry), high throughput analytical platforms (Octet-384, GXII-Touch, Maurice, iCE3) and various robotic liquid handlers (Protein Maker, Hamilton Star, Tecan).
  • Perform routine tasks independently and interpret data to support process development of biologics molecules.
  • Generate reliable and consistent results. Troubleshoot and investigate when needed.
  • Goal oriented teammate, with analytical skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, organization, multitasking in a dynamic collaborative cross-functional environment.
