Amgen is seeking a Business Performance Senior Manager - Corporate Affairs at our global headquarters located in Thousand Oaks, California. The Senior Manager will report directly to the SVP Corporate Affairs and will be a member of the leadership team.

This Business Performance Senior Manager - Corporate Affairs will partner with the Corporate Affairs team (and in particular the Executive Director - Reputation and Functional Excellence) as well as subject matter experts to identify strengths and opportunities for improvement across the function, co-create solutions and successfully execute the highest priority efforts to enable reputation building, amplify corporate and functional messaging and improve productivity. The primary focus of the Senior Manager will be on staying keenly attuned to the evolving process and behavioral changes being placed on the function and developing change management tools to help drive these transformations in the team and with their business partners throughout the company.

The Senior Manager will lead or provide liaison support for components of the corporate affairs change initiative(s), drive improvement opportunities through using Results Delivery Office (RDO) processes and toolkit, drive adoption of new critical capabilities, develop approaches to improve business engagement and implement comprehensive change strategies to transform the organization and enable it to meet new communications and philanthropic challenges. Additionally, he/she will gather, analyze, and synthesize cross-functional information across a variety of sources to turn unstructured business issues and requests into appropriate action plans and projects that result in high quality, meaningful and actionable deliverables. The incumbent will also provide presentations that clearly summarize status, issues, implications and recommendations to key stakeholders to inform and communicate decision making. In addition, the Senior Manager may be asked to lead and/or participate in cross-functional projects. Successful candidates will spend ~18-36 months working on a portfolio of transformation initiatives before transitioning into other leadership roles (e.g., functional communications, media, content, reputation/brand, etc.), or other areas of the business.

Key Responsibilities of the Business Performance Senior Manager - Corporate Affairs:
  • Leads change management and communication strategies in support of the Corporate Affairs function; provides expertise in transformation methodologies appropriate for the objective
  • Leads and manages the development of Corporate Affairs all-staff communication plans and calendars
  • Drives periodic executive communications such as the CEO Reports and Operating Team's stoplight reporting
  • Creates and implements communication plans for key priority projects throughout the year
  • Analyzes complex business situations and adapt to changing environments, projects and responsibilities
  • Plans for and manages organizational change, driving awareness and adoption at an enterprise scale (global experience is a plus)
  • Creates - and directs others to create - client-ready/user-ready deliverables, including stakeholder analyses, communications plans, and corporate communications
  • Designs and measures KPIs for change adoption
  • Develops change management methodology, reusable processes, assets, tools, playbooks, etc.
  • Facilities stakeholder/user workshops, as well as in delivering stakeholder/user communications and leadership communications
  • Plans and facilitates workshops and governance discussions objectively
  • Drives the development and evolution of the initiative plan and timely execution of initiative milestones
  • Builds and maintains strong relationships with stakeholders; proactively seek buy-in and providing on-going support to address business needs
  • Constructively challenges teams by providing disconfirming information and encouraging innovative problem solving
  • Adapts and thrives in a rapidly changing and fast-moving environment


Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree and 2 years of communications and/or philanthropy and/or project management and/or finance experience

OR

Master's degree and 4 years of communications and/or philanthropy and/or project management and/or finance experience

OR

Bachelor's degree and 6 years of communications and/or philanthropy and/or project management and/or finance experience

OR

Associate's degree and 10 years of communications and/or philanthropy and/or project management and/or finance experience

OR

High school diploma / GED and 12 years of communications and/or philanthropy and/or project management and/or finance experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 4+ years' of cross-functional consulting and/or project management experience
  • Experience defining and delivering change management/corporate communications strategy, planning, and execution deliverables/communications materials at an enterprise scale
  • Strong facilitation and presentation skills, with experience delivering executive-level messaging
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including ability to storyline and prepare executive-level discussion documents
  • Excellent conceptual problem-solving skills with demonstrated ability to bring structure to vaguely defined problems, pragmatically scope problem solving approach, and manage execution
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative analytic skills
  • Strong leadership/communication skills with a demonstrated ability to influence different styles and comfort in coordinating groups of people (even when all/most of them are more senior in company rank)
  • Ability to lead teams via influencing skills versus a direct reporting relationship
  • Experience as a member of a high performing team
  • Self-starter; demonstrated ability to understand the needs of the team and re-prioritize activities for self and others accordingly
  • Familiarity with high quality communications campaigns
  • A proven record of developing and using insights and communicating them to creative communities in a relevant and engaging way
  • Experience of managing stakeholder relationships at a senior level
  • Understanding of company brands, knowledge of the industry and a demonstrable interest in its output
