Amgen is seeking a talented Software Engineer to build industry preeminent forward looking scientific applications with modern technology stacks that will be used by our clinical development partners to drive Amgen's innovation in drug development lifecycle. The exceptional candidate will join our vivid Development IS team to deliver solutions by leveraging best practices in Agile and DevOps methodologies. The Clinical Design and Analysis team supports Center for Observational Research globally with innovative IS and Data Science solutions to accelerate and grow Amgen's pipeline of biopharmaceuticals. The ideal candidate is a hands-on platform builder with significant experience in developing scalable data platforms. We're looking for someone with experience in Data transformation, analytics, data science and data products. They must have strong, firsthand technical expertise in a variety of configuration management and big data cloud technologies especially AWS and the proven ability to fashion robust scalable solutions that can manage large data sets. They must be at ease working in an agile environment with little supervision. This person should embody a passion for continuous improvement and test-driven development.

Responsibilities:
  • Create systems to enable end to end Real-world evidence generation solutions in support of Drug development activities to discover best drug candidates
  • Evaluate and utilize cutting-edge technologies in the industry to meet scientific business needs
  • Review functional and technical designs to identify areas of risk and/or missing requirements
  • Provide technical write-ups and drawings to promote the proposed solutions
  • Expertise with translating business requirements to technical requirements and recommend solutions
  • Data analysis and reporting experience by leveraging analytics, visualization and database technologies (Oracle, MongoDB SQL, Spotfire, SAS, Python, Spark)
  • Collaborate with the other engineering team members to ensure all services are reliable, scalable, maintainable, and well-integrated into existing platforms
  • Adhere to best practices for testing and designing reusable code
  • Ensure effective communication between development business area management, technical staff and vendors to review Observation Research needs and implement solutions in data acquisition, transformation, integration and analysis


Basic Qualifications:
  • Master's degree
  • OR
  • Bachelor's degree and 2 year' experience
  • OR
  • Associates' degree and 6 years' experience
  • OR
  • High School diploma / GED and 8 years' experience


Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Life Sciences, Computer Science or Engineering
  • Strong learning agility, ability to pick up new technologies used to support early drug discovery data analysis needs.
  • Strong experience working with agile methodology & DevOps (Jenkins, JIRA, Github) frameworks with successful experience working in a collaborative team environment
  • Experience working with container technologies (e.g., Docker) and developing microservices
  • Hands-on experience working with technologies like Hadoop, Hive, Pig, Oozie, Map Reduce, Spark, Sqoop, Kafka, Flume, etc.
  • Experience building and deploying infrastructure with cloud deployment technologies like ansible, chef, puppet, etc.
  • Experience with monitoring technologies like Lambda, Nagios, Ganglia, etc.
  • Experience with modern programming languages like Java, Python, Spark, R, etc.
  • Experience in Cloud (AWS, databricks platforms) & HPC (high performance computing) environments
  • Experience with building APIs and services using REST, SOAP, etc.
  • Experience with test-driven development and automated testing frameworks.
  • Experience with Scrum/Agile development methodologies.
  • Capable of delivering on multiple competing priorities with little supervision.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
