Amgen is seeking a Corporate Affairs Manager - Brand Journalist to be based at our global headquarters in Thousand Oaks, CA. The Manager will report directly to the Executive Director of Corporate Affairs - Content Strategy & Social Media.

Consistent with the vision of Amgen Corporate Affairs to "proactively shape, drive and enhance the Amgen brand and reputation globally," the Manager is responsible for developing high quality magazine-style editorial content in the journalistic tradition to enhance Amgen's reputation and support business objectives.

Key responsibilities of the Corporate Affairs Manager - Brand Journalist will include:
  • Actively creates high quality, feature length editorial content comparable to a top-tier journalist to be published on digital channels
  • Seeks out compelling brand stories developed through years of experience successfully pitching and writing feature stories as a journalist
  • Translates complex strategy and science into top quality editorial stories
  • Independently works on editorial stories with leaders and technical experts throughout the organization


Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree
OR
Master's degree and 2 years of Journalism and/or Communications experience
OR
Bachelor's degree and 4 years of Journalism and/or Communications experience
OR
Associate's degree and 10 years of Journalism and/or Communications experience

OR
High school diploma / GED and 12 years of Journalism and/or Communications experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 5+ years experience at a nationally or internationally recognized newspaper or magazine as a journalist writing feature length articles and content
  • BA or Masters Degree in Journalism, Fine Arts, English or related area
  • 2+ years healthcare experience
  • Extensive experience interviewing executives and technical authorities, and writing different types of editorial: Q&A, profiles, trend stories, news, features
  • Operates in a way that is science-based, using data to inform content development
  • Models ethical behavior to teams and colleagues in the production and development of external and internal content
  • Held accountable for delivering results rapidly while ensuring quality
  • Ability to work as part of an editorial team of content creators
  • Harnesses a sophisticated writing style capable of shaping and writing the service of the Amgen brand in an editorial capacity
  • Capable of working with multiple partners to passionately simplify and optimize complex systems and structures
  • Handles pressure and demands from multiple internal clients with contending priorities
  • Acts quickly with daily or weekly content creation and publishing
