Amgen is seeking a Corporate Affairs Senior Manager - Thousand Oaks Site Communications to be based at our corporate campus located in Thousand Oaks, California. The Senior Manager will report directly to the Director of Corporate Affairs - Corporate Functions with a dotted-line to the Vice President - Clinical Manufacturing and the Amgen Thousand Oaks (ATO) Site Head.

The Corporate Affairs Senior Manager - Thousand Oaks Site Communications will be essential in improving and protecting Amgen's reputation in the local community and enhancing the ATO staff culture, consistent with the Amgen Values. Working in close partnership with the Vice President, Clinical Manufacturing and site leadership team, the Senior Manager will drive communication strategy and implementation, including local media relations, external communications and internal communications.

Key responsibilities of the Corporate Affairs Senior Manager - Thousand Oaks Site Communications will include:
  • Builds and implements plans for local internal and external communications, site networking and cross-functional connectivity
  • Develops and implements engagement plan to build a culture consistent with the Amgen Values to ensure ATO staff are informed, aligned and engaged
  • Supports ATO site head in their site-wide communications activities
  • Builds relationships with local media outlets and reporters; act as site spokesperson with media
  • Raises public awareness and positively influence public opinion about the site in Thousand Oaks in support of leadership and ongoing recruiting efforts
  • In coordination with the Global Philanthropy team, supports local philanthropy activities and community engagement
  • Works in collaboration with Corporate Affairs colleagues, draft and execute communications materials, including cross-functional reviews, through final distribution internally and externally
  • Represents Amgen in the local community at appropriate venues


Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree and 2 years of communications and/or philanthropy and/or project management experience

Or

Master's degree and 4 years of communications and/or philanthropy and/or project management experience

Or

Bachelor's degree and 6 years of communications and/or philanthropy and/or project management experience

Or

Associate's degree and 10 years of communications and/or philanthropy and/or project management experience

Or

High school diploma / GED and 12 years of communications and/or philanthropy and/or project management experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing or related field
  • 8+ years of corporate communication experience, including internal communication and community relations
  • Outstanding verbal communication, writing and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work calmly and maintain judgement under pressure; deal with rapidly changing priorities and recognize when to escalate
  • Strategic and creative thinker with the ability to truly understand business challenges and priorities and develop actionable programs that integrate soundly with business objectives
  • Demonstrated proficiency working directly with executive management, including the ability to advise, influence, and coach on communication strategies around potentially sensitive issues
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; enthusiastic, team player and self-starter; serious dedication to hard work and excellence
  • Crisis management experience
  • Biotechnology, pharmaceutical or healthcare communications experience
