Amgen is seeking a Director of Corporate Affairs - Reputation Intelligence to be based at our corporate campus located in Thousand Oaks, California but with the potential to be based at any Amgen campus located in the United States or Europe. The Director will report directly to the Executive Director of Corporate Affairs - Reputation Intelligence & Functional Excellence.

Consistent with the vision of Amgen Corporate Affairs to "dedicatedly shape, drive and enhance the Amgen brand and reputation globally," the Director of Corporate Affairs - Reputation Intelligence will set and drive the strategy for understanding the strategic levers driving Amgen's external reputation. Based on both unique research and existing content from around the company, the Director will make recommendations regarding content, people, and tools that may most effectively impact reputation.

Key responsibilities of the Director of Corporate Affairs - Reputation Intelligence will include:
  • Conducts in-depth research into the awareness, reputation, trust, brand value, employer of choice and credibility for Amgen and its leaders to inform:
    • Corporate narrative & content creation
    • Positioning & outlets to the Content & Media teams
    • Strategic investment of CA resources
    • Third party partnerships, reports & rating agencies
  • Develops a systematic approach to identify and run an external partner & influencer mapping program (e.g. an "Amgen 100") that may be demonstrated by the Corporate Affairs to enhance Amgen's brand or defend its reputation externally
  • Creates profiles of Amgen executive's potential "equity" in enhancing Amgen's brand & reputation - an analysis would help inform an executive engagement playbook of owned, earned, paid opportunities in support of the full Corporate Affairs LT
  • Leads the measurement systems & analysis of outcomes, including:
  • Identifies the right tools and recommending the standard globally across CA
  • Works with Content & Media teams to identify baseline measurements for campaigns before launch and postmortem analysis
  • Implements reporting mechanisms, benchmark and progress metrics in partnership with the Corporate Affairs LT to help them figure out progress within their organizations

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree and 4 years of Corporate Affairs experience


Master's degree and 7 years of Corporate Affairs experience


Bachelor's degree and 9 years of Corporate Affairs experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 7+ years of increasingly progressive experience in Corporate Communication or Corporate Affairs, including specifically roles that required the use of data, measurement and reputational activities to drive business results
  • Experience handling commercial and external communications in a large healthcare organization
  • Experience running regional Corporate Affairs staff and organizations
  • 10+ years' experience with a public relations agency or communications team in a corporate setting
  • Ability to interpret reputational & measurement data, effectively create and suggest strategies that enhance the organization's reputation, and further the reputation objectives of the organization at a global scale
  • Demonstrates constant curiosity & applies systems thinking in recommending solutions
  • Provides timely and professional support to all internal/external customers and vendors
  • Prioritizes regular workload, special tasks and concurrent projects, allocating time and resources to ensure that work is completed accurately & efficiently within established time frame
  • Effective organizational, leadership and presentation skills
  • Uses data to find opportunities, suggests solutions and resolves problems
  • Listens and considers multiple viewpoints when figuring out enterprise-wide recommendations
  • Presents organized and thorough information and data appropriate for intended audience
  • Utilizes variety of interpersonal styles and communication methods to effectively adapt to new work structures, processes, or cultures
