Amgen is seeking a Corporate Affairs Manager - Functional Excellence to be based at our corporate campus located in Thousand Oaks, California. The Manager will report directly to the Executive Director Corporate Affairs - Corporate Reputation & Functional Excellence (CR & FE).

The Corporate Affairs Manager - Functional Excellence will help the Corporate Affairs team maximize its performance within the operating matrix through a careful stewardship of budget, 3rd party vendors, governance & SLAs. The Manager will also be critical in designing go-forward productivity strategies for Corporate Affairs; and will partner with the Content and Media Relations teams to optimize results via measurement.

Key responsibilities of the Corporate Affairs Manager - Functional Excellence will include:
  • In partnership with the Executive Director of CR&FE and Senior Vice President of Corporate Affairs, manages the quarterly budget process
  • Identifies and uses measurement systems to: 1) Optimize the efficacy of Media and Content campaigns 2) Determine how 3rd party vendors performed against plan 3) Deliver productivity
  • Manages 3rd Party contracts as they pertain to the Corporate Affairs central budget
  • Understands the levers to pull to get the greatest value or to free up resources for higher priority products
  • Partners with the Corporate Affairs LT to process map and develop governance and service level agreements as the team works in a newly-formed matrix operating model


Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree

Or

Master's degree and 2 years of Corporate Communication and/or Corporate Affairs and/or Budget Management and/or Process Mapping experience

Or

Bachelor's degree and 4 years of Corporate Communication and/or Corporate Affairs and/or Budget Management and/or Process Mapping experience

Or

Associate's degree and 10 years of Corporate Communication and/or Corporate Affairs and/or Budget Management and/or Process Mapping experience

Or

High school diploma / GED and 12 years of Corporate Communication and/or Corporate Affairs and/or Budget Management and/or Process Mapping experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of increasingly progressive experience in Corporate Communication or Corporate Affairs including specifically roles that required budget management or process mapping
  • Ability to understand budgets and suggest appropriate tradeoffs that tie to CA strategy
  • Demonstrates constant curiosity & applies systems thinking in recommending solutions
  • Strong cross-functional leadership skills. Believes that sharing information is a strength
  • Superb communication and presentation skills
  • Process-minded and detail-oriented
  • Understands how to effectively partner with commercial and regional teams to find the most effective processes to map the responsibilities and drive the team forward
  • Establishes and maintains effective, collaborative work relationships both internally and externally
  • Provides timely and professional support to all internal/external customers and vendors
  • Prioritizes regular workload, special tasks and concurrent projects, allocating time and resources to ensure that work is completed accurately & efficiently within established time frame
  • Effective presentation skills
  • Strong business focus with demonstrated ability to act in partnership with management teams
  • Takes calculated risks, makes strategic, results-oriented decisions, and accepts responsibility for the results (positive or negative)
