PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION

Associate Director of Market Access and Reimbursement will have the responsibility of building and implementing a comprehensive payer and site reimbursement strategy that optimizes brand strategy and payer value proposition.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The position will ensure cross-functional alignment between US market access, US marketing, finance, medical affairs, legal, and global market access. A successful candidate in this role will play a significant role in developing and executing Santen's commercial strategy while representing the voice of the customer. S/he will develop the strategic market access plan for Santen's new commercial products in the US. This includes brand value platform, launch and pull through for both the payer and field reimbursement teams. Patient and HCP experience is key and will differentiate us from our competitors.

This role reports directly to the Director, Commercial Operations and will have regular interaction with the rest of the leadership team within Santen and subsidiaries.
MAJOR DUTIES OF POSITION:
  • Leads Payer Team to build strong working relationships with key decision-makers in pharmacy, rebate, contract and medical administration with assigned state Medicaid agencies, Medicare Part B MACs and private payers.
  • Leads Field Reimbursement Team to engage clinics, hospital and local VISN P&T committee reviews to ensure site access.
  • Coordinate launch activities across US market access team.
  • Work with US marketing to develop and implement collateral and communication plans for payer value propositions, channel and patient services models which support our US brand strategy.
  • Builds collaborative relationships with Sales, Marketing, Finance, Customer Operations, Medical Affairs (MSL) to support site needs and resolve reimbursement issues. Ensure contracting strategies are created and directly support brand positioning and value proposition.
  • Manages Field Accounts, sizing, P&L and compensation planning process.
  • Develop and implement payer, channel, and regional access manager engagement plans and metrics.
  • Designs key metrics and ensures accuracy of executive dashboards to track payer team results.
  • Coordinate and manage Market access business reviews and metrics.
  • Be a strong and visible leader in the importance of good business conduct and adherence with applicable laws, regulations, rules and codes.
  • Continuously maintains a compliant environment.
  • Ensure Payer and Reimbursement Team is aligned closely with the Santen Patient Call Center to continuously update payer policies and respond to reimbursement inquiries.
  • Develops strong working relationships with relevant state societies for reimbursement education and advocacy.
  • Works at the state executive branch level and health commissioners within the assigned states to ensure payer product access.
  • Monitors and reports on all federal and state healthcare payer legislation that may impact Santen.
  • Educates field sales on regional payer policies and reimbursement environment to support pull-through efforts.
  • Lead payer advisory panels and engagement at major payer meetings.
  • Lead practice management advisory panels and engagement at practice management meetings.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Extensive Travel is required.
  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Life Sciences, Business Administration or Public Health is required, with a minimum of 10 years related experience in the healthcare industry.
  • A minimum of 8 years related payer or office reimbursement field management experience in the healthcare industry.
  • Experience managing a payer or trade account team is required.
  • Payer pharmacy benefit formulary and contracting experience required.
  • Proven relationships with state Medicaid, Medicare Part B and private payer Medical Directors, pricing and rebate teams.
  • Field Sales and managed care training desirable.
  • Sales or Managed Care Operations skills desirable.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience in payer CRM, payer policy and data tracking tools.
  • Strong aptitude in payer analytics and proven ability to manage vendors to perform payer analytics.
  • Problem solving skills and multi-tasking experience are critical.
  • Strong understanding and prior experience with the development and implementation of at least one of the following: Co-Pay, Access/HUB vendor selection and management and specialty pharmacy.
  • Ophthalmology and glaucoma, medical device experience.
