Amgen is seeking an Executive Communications Director, based at our corporate campus located in Thousand Oaks, California. The Director will report directly to the Vice President of Corporate Affairs.

Research shows that CEOs are an increasingly strong driver of a company's overall reputation. Consistent with the Vision of Amgen Corporate Affairs to "proactively shape, drive and enhance the Amgen brand and reputation globally," the Executive Communications Director, internally known as the Corporate Affairs Director, is accountable for building Amgen's reputation through the internal and external engagement activities of our CEO.

Key responsibilities of the Executive Communications Director include:
  • Determines the value of incoming CEO engagement requests (internal and external) and proactively research and secure reputation-building engagements for our CEO
  • Determines the appropriate areas of focus for our CEO based on reputation research and Amgen's own business priorities
  • Works with the CEO, the Senior Vice President of Corporate Affairs, and the Vice President of Enterprise & Executive Strategies to create compelling, high-quality content for our CEO - e.g. speeches, presentations, letters, videos
  • Amplifies our CEO's engagements via Amgen's internal and external channels for maximum impact - e.g. amgen.com, Twitter, LinkedIn, MyAmgen (our global intranet site)
  • Contributes to the planning and execution of Amgen's twice-a-year Vice Presidents Meetings and annual Executive Directors and Officers Meeting
  • 10-20% travel can be expected (both domestic and foreign)


Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree and 4 years of Corporate Affairs and/or Communications experience

OR

Master's degree and 7 years of Corporate Affairs and/or Communications experience

OR

Bachelor's degree and 9 years of Corporate Affairs and/or Communications experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 3+ years' experience in the biotechnology and/or pharmaceutical industries
  • 5+ years' experience working in a fast-paced and highly cross-functional organization.
  • 5+ years' experience working in a global organization.
  • Outstanding thinking and writing skills with strong executive presence and collaborative skills
  • Attention to detail and deadlines with patience, tenacity, and good humor
  • Intellectually curious and current on trends in our industry and in the business world more broadly
  • Ability to transition from high-level strategic thinking to creative and detailed execution
  • Ability to manage time and juggle multiple priorities
