Paragon Gene Therapy, in Baltimore & Harmans, Maryland, provides industry-leading GMP development and manufacturing services for cutting-edge biopharmaceuticals such as recombinant viral vectors, next generation vaccines & hard-to-express recombinant proteins and oncolytic viruses.

The Senior Accountant is a foundational role within our Accounting team. The successful individual will set up cost accounting processes while working closely with our ERP implementation team to incorporate the new system requirements. This individual works closely with business team such as Manufacturing, Program Management and the Financial Planning team. This role will be a key part of a month-end close by reviewing material variances, closing production orders, preparing journal entries and creating reports to support customer billings. The Cost Accountant will also be responsible for maintaining standard costs in ERP system and monthly analyzes of inventory cost variances. This position will report to Assistant Controller.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Work with our ERP implementation team to establish workflows and processes for proper job costing activities where none exist today.
  • Work closely with supply chain on periodic cycle counts and recognition of adjustments
  • Prepare and update standard costs for inventory items as needed to ensure accurate pricing to customers for pass through billings
  • Work closely with Accounts Receivable team in preparation of monthly pass-through billings and aid in customer communications where needed
  • Prepare, analyze and distribute bi-monthly reports to support customer pass-throughs billings; reconcile pass-through billings throughout the project and prepare final customer reconciliations
  • Reconcile all inventory, WIP and inventory related variance accounts and advise on the disposition of variances
  • Research and explain account variances, interpret trends, evaluate fluctuation
  • Analyze actual manufacturing costs and prepare periodic reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs
  • Create and review the controls/policies/procedures for cost data accumulation and reporting systems
  • Learn and become a leader/trainer in the new ERP system
  • Participate and lead ad-hoc projects to assist management
  • Ability to accurately prepare daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports
  • Analyze and track production overhead account information; disseminate fluctuations in indirect rates to Business development and F, P & A

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting
  • At least 7-10 years' experience working in an accounting function within a manufacturing environment
  • Must have a strong Cost systems background and have excellent analytical skills; sound understanding of accounting principles
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office is required. Understanding and application of Excel formulas a must
  • Experience implementing ERP systems and the new standard operating procedures this creates within the Accounting function
  • Ability to work in fast paced, high pressure environment with high attention to detail
  • Ability to shift and manage multiple priorities
  • Team player. Strong interpersonal, listening, questioning and communication skills (written and oral)
