Job Details

Amgen is seeking a Software Engineer- Back End Developer to join our Commercial Information Systems team (GCO IS) in our global headquarters in Thousand Oaks, CA. This Software Engineer will be an expert back-end developer, internally known as a Specialist Software Engineer, who has a consistent record of building thoughtful, well-designed solutions with a history of using their experience and creativity to tackle problems in an innovative, yet practical, manner. The Software Engineer will report to the Specialist IS Business Systems Analyst.

GCO IS is responsible for partnering with Amgen's US Business Operations (USBO) organization to deliver technology services and solutions that achieve corporate commercial strategies, business plans and patient needs. The Software Engineer- Back End Developer will lead architect, design/build, deliver and run/support of the backend applications under a product development process that meets FDA and other regulatory agencies requirements. Further, the Software Engineer- Back End Developer will lead/support verification and validation testing, unit testing, and ensure that all product development conforms to design specifications and coding standards for heath management systems or medical devices.

Responsibilities of the Software Engineer- Back End Developer include:
  • Works multi-functionally with product team, design, and client teams to bring amazing designs and features to life
  • Manages / Leads software development process change and DevOps discussions
  • Leads new development efforts by working closely with software architecture or technical product owner to adhere to general architecture guidelines and design
  • Develops and maintain shared code libraries and facilitate training and adoption by other developers from other IS organizations while finding opportunities for reusability
  • Participates in Agile meetings to contribute with development strategies and product roadmap
  • Provides deep understanding of systems and core business functions in order to provide informed suggestions and solutions
  • Codes reviews and pair programming
  • Advocates and champion use of industry best-practices, high-quality code, and compliance with department development processes
  • Actively communicate delays or unforeseen problems that will tasks you are leading


Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree

OR

Master's degree AND 3 years of information systems and/or computer science and/or developer experience

OR

Bachelor's degree AND 5 years of information systems and/or computer science and/or developer experience

OR

Associate's degree and 10 years of information systems and/or computer science and/or developer experience

OR
High school diploma / GED and 12 years of information systems and/or computer science and/or developer experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 5+ years or more of experience with AWS native services (such as Lambda functions, API gateway, Cognito, SES, SNS, IAM, etc.)
  • 5+ years or more of experience developing in one or more languages (Node.JS, Angular, Python, Java, C#)
  • 3+ years of more of experience with open sources development tool chain (SVN, Git, Jenkins, etc.)
  • 3+ years of experience with continuous integration and DevOPS
  • Experience in building cloud native mobile applications
  • Experience/knowledge of objective C, Swift
  • Knowledge of other web technologies and UI/UX standards
  • Experience with Salesforce platforms (such as Heroku, Marketing Cloud and Lightning)
  • Ability to think strategically about technology and recommend solutions that align with business strategy and achieve the greatest business impact
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with demonstrated ability to interact effectively with different personality styles and establish relationships in a multi functional environment
  • Experience is healthcare or medical devices is helpful
