Director of Tumor Biology

Varian Medical Systems is seeking a highly motivated and creative Director/Biologist with experience managing a world class team to join our Global Translational Science unit at Varian.

The successful candidate will have extensive and diverse laboratory experience in tumor biology, cell and molecular biology. Additionally, a strong background in immunology and radiobiology is highly desirable.

The candidate in this role will be responsible for overseeing a range of projects in the fields of radiobiology, immuno-oncology, and tumor biology. This role must be based out of our Palo Alto, CA Headquarters.

The successful candidate will manage a team of several Sr. Scientists and Res. Associates. Detailed knowledge of state of the art technologies used in cell- and tumor biology as well as immunology research is essential. Ability to troubleshoot technical problems and to introduce novel emerging technologies as appropriate is also highly desirable.
 
The candidate will be expected to manage existing programs and also to initiate new research endeavors at the forefront of science. Programs will include both internal and external collaborative efforts with major medical centers. Excellent communication skills are key as are exceptional writing skills.

The candidate will contribute to external scientific visibility through publications and presentations at key scientific meetings.

Minimum Required Skills and Knowledge:  Ability, competence, and confidence to lead people. Effective interpersonal skills.

Typical Education: PhD in biology or related experience.

Typical Work Experience: 5+  years of Director level management experience.
