Scientist (Protein Biochemistry- SPR/BLI)

Summary
We are seeking a biophysical chemist to provide analytical protein characterization through the use of cutting-edge biophysical technologies in the Protein Biochemistry group at Regeneron. The qualified candidate will be responsible for providing in-depth biophysical and biochemical characterization of therapeutic proteins to support mid-late stage development programs. The candidate is expected to take on a leading role in applying a diverse array of advanced biophysical techniques to deepen our knowledge of late stage biotherapeutic proteins and their inherent heterogeneity to support regulatory application.

Responsibilities

• Independently designs and conducts protein biophysical and biochemical experiments; analyzes data to elucidate quality attributes of therapeutic protein candidates and/or products.
• Provides biophysical support for both upstream and downstream functional groups; helps solve development problems in real-time.
• Takes a leading role in late stage development support using affinity methods including optimizing kinetic assays using traditional and non-traditional reagents.
• Documents experiments, results and findings in electronic laboratory notebook; presents work at group and department meetings; contributes to drafting of analytical characterization reports, regulatory submission sections, and peer-reviewed articles for publication.
• Supervise Research Associate(s) conducting research and developmental work.
• Participates in the general lab and instrument maintenance.

Requirements

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work in a cross-functional team environment.
• The candidate must demonstrate the ability to plan, design, implement and analyze laboratory experimentation to advance projects.
• PhD in biophysical chemistry, molecular biophysics, or biochemistry with 0-3 years post-doctoral training in analytical protein characterization; experience in or collaboration with the biopharmaceutical industry is an advantage.
• In depth knowledge of and demonstrated expertise operating SPR (Biacore) and/or BLI (Octet) instrumentation.
• Deep understanding of principles of chemistry, biochemistry, as well SPR and kinetic assay experimental design.
• Thorough understanding of affinity, avidity, and kinetics concepts.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and troubleshoot novel kinetics assays using traditional and non-traditional protein reagents (mAb, scFv, Fc-Fusion, bi-specific antibodies, recombinant receptors, crude serum).
• Experience in light scattering (static and/or dynamic) and spectroscopic (e.g. CD, fluorescence, and/or FTIR) principles and applications for analysis of proteins and/or size-based (e.g. SEC, CE-SDS, and/or AUC) and charge-based (e.g. icIEF, IEX) separation techniques is a plus.
• Previous supervisory experience preferred.
