Job Details

The Clinical Services Program's primary mission is to perform sequential studies using samples obtained from patients with cancer, AIDS, chronic granulomatous disease or other diseases associated with immunologic dysfunction, as well as to monitor viral load in patients with HIV.

KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES

The employee will provide technical support for NCI clinical patient sample processing and database entry for the Blood Processing Core (BPC) of the Clinical Pharmacology Program (CPP) within the Office of the Clinical Director, CCR, NCI, NIH.

Primary duties include:
  • Processing of patient samples (blood, serum, plasma and other bodily fluids) for further analysis following the Blood Processing Core SOPs
  • Entering data associated with archived and new samples into various databases
  • Maintain and perform established quality control procedures for sample databases as well as the physical samples to ensure information is entered correctly and samples are stored correctly
  • Follow quality assurance standards for patient samples
  • Manage all files associated with samples and/or patients for the CPP including running queries, uploading files and extracting data for pharmacokinetic worksheets, chromatograms, protocols and consent forms
  • Processing and cataloging clinical samples obtained from the clinical patient care units and data management of the BPC after hours
  • May provide backup support to existing staff in processing clinical samples including but not limited to; plasma, serum, PBMS, urine, saliva, DNA, and ascities fluid

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • Possession of an BA/BS degree from an accredited college/university according to the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) in biomedical research, biochemistry, chemistry, or engineering. (Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education). Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency.
  • In addition to the educational requirements, a minimum of two (2) years of experience is required
  • Proficient in Microsoft office software, electronic data keeping and management, and basic knowledge of statistics applied in data reduction and analysis
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance
  • Must be able to work evening shift and be independent.
  • Must demonstrate that they are accurate, reliable, with good computer skills.
  • Prior experience in a clinical laboratory or equivalent setting is required.
  • Must have working knowledge of laboratory QA/QC procedures and have experience following standard SOPs
  • Experience in aseptic technique and experience with manipulation of blood and other body fluids is required
