Amgen Research is seeking a Senior Associate Scientist to join the Pharmacokinetics and Drug Metabolism (PKDM) department at our South San Francisco site.

PKDM within Amgen Research is dedicated to the discovery and development of novel, effective, and safe medicines. The successful candidate will work in a team environment to characterize the absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion (ADME), and pharmacokinetic properties of therapeutic drug candidates to achieve their full pharmacological potential. PKDM works in close partnership with disciplines such as medicinal chemistry, pharmacology, toxicology, pharmaceutical sciences, clinical pharmacology and regulatory to design promising clinical therapeutic candidates, conduct preclinical development studies, support clinical evaluation and contribute to IND and NDA filings.

In this position, you will work as a member of the small molecule ADME group and your core responsibilities are to:
  • Execute enzyme kinetics, in vitro inhibition, metabolite identification, and bioanalytical experiments.
  • Implement bioanalytical methods for the quantitative and qualitative analysis of small molecule drug candidates and metabolites in plasma, tissues, and other biological matrices.
  • Troubleshoot when instrument or assay problems arise.
  • Other responsibilities will include basic biochemistry research, electronic laboratory notebook keeping and communication of results to project teams


Basic Qualifications

Master's degree and 3 years of scientific experience

OR

Bachelor's degree and 5 years of scientific experience

Preferred Qualifications:

BS or MS, or PhD in chemistry or biochemistry

Experience with operation, troubleshooting, and data interpretation of a mass spectrometer

Experience with operation of automated liquid sample handling instruments and/or experience with analysis of radiolabeled compounds

Effective oral and written communication skills

Aptitude to thrive in a fast-paced, highly collaborative, matrixed team environment
