Amgen R&D Medical Sciences/Clinical Biomarkers & Diagnostics (CBD) is looking for a Principal Scientist dedicated to clinical biomarker development. This position will primarily support biomarker discovery and development for our hematologic cancer portfolio.

The successful candidate is expected to work cross-functionally within Amgen and interact closely with both the clinical and discovery research groups. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to engage key opinion leaders and the external research community to develop and implement the biomarker strategy in support of our hematologic cancer pipeline.

As Amgen continues to develop and expand our oncology pipeline the successful candidate will be expected to be play a key role in the strategic leadership of our biomarker division, which will include managing a group of biomarker scientists working on multiple project teams.

The candidate will interface with oncology research, early and late stage clinical development, and IVD teams throughout the drug development process.

The candidate is expected to work in a highly matrixed environment and drive scientific and technical innovation collaboratively with other members of the group, as well as with Amgen research community.

Basic Qualifications

Doctorate degree and 3 years Scientific experience

OR

Master's degree and 6 years Scientific experience

OR

Bachelor's degree and 8 years Scientific experience

Preferred Qualifications

Ph.D and 5+ years of industry experience in translational research

Experience managing junior scientists or research associates

Extensive experience in hematology/hematological cancer

Established track record of interrogating immune cell populations as they relate to the various forms of leukemia/lymphoma and Myeloma, as well as an in-depth understanding of immunologic pathways

Experience in implementing program-based strategies for both pharmacodynamic and patient stratification biomarkers

Strong background in tumor biology and cancer genomics with practical experience in successful preclinical biomarker discovery/validation and implementing biomarker assays in a clinical trial setting

Familiarity with assay development and qualification

Demonstrated the ability to establish and execute external collaborations with both academic laboratories as well as CROs

Knowledge of technical and regulatory requirements for diagnostic development

Outstanding communication skills including both oral and written presentation
