The Manager Manufacturing in the single use systems, resins and filter (SURF) category will lead and/or participate in multiple cross-functional initiatives representing Amgen and Operations as the single point of contact to our external suppliers and is accountable for the overall business activities and deliverables.

The Manager Manufacturing must ensure Amgen benefits from an optimized commercialization plan that considers patient and commercial value, Operations strategy, and the capabilities of the supplier. This role requires networking across key Operations' functions (Global Operations Planning, Supply Chain, Supplier Quality Management, Corporate Quality, Process Development, Engineering, Drug Product Manufacturing Sites, and Operations Risk Management), as well as the broader functions of Commercial, Finance, Global Strategic Sourcing, IS and Legal to ensure that all aspects are carefully considered. Additionally, the Manager Manufacturing represents Amgen Operations and acts as the key interface with Amgen's external suppliers to improve quality, agility, efficiency and reliability while striving to reduce variability and assure ongoing continuous improvement.


  • Partnering with suppliers and team to establish objectives (including scope, schedule, & budget) for development, supply and continuous improvement
  • Regular meetings and communications with supplier/Amgen team to progress the objectives
  • Collaboration with Amgen functional stakeholders and partner's leadership to ensure alignment and success
  • Driving cross-functional communication and integration of information
  • Driving issue resolution
  • Removing barriers to decision-making, personnel, and budgets
  • Proactively identifying and mitigating risks
  • Managing contract compliance and IP
  • Identifying and on-boarding Amgen team members
  • Relationship owner for Operations - maintain understanding of global activities at Amgen sites and external supplier(s) and act as primary point of contact for all supply issues.
  • Identify key risks in the supply chain and drive mitigation strategies
  • Ensure that external trends and drivers, historical decisions and key learnings are shared via appropriate knowledge management tools
  • Drive Continuous Improvement efforts within Amgen and with suppliers such as Kaizen events, person-in-plant initiatives, and leading complex investigations
  • Actively manage relationship with suppliers using the Supplier Relationship Excellence (SRE) framework
  • Domestic and International travel average up to 25%

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree


Master's degree and 3 years of drug product manufacturing or operations experience


Bachelor's degree and 5 years of drug product manufacturing or operations experience


Associate's degree and 10 years of drug product manufacturing or operations experience


High school diploma / GED and 12 years of drug product manufacturing or operations experience


Previous managerial experience directly managing people and/or experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources

Preferred Qualifications:
  • At least 10 years of biopharmaceutical experience, with 3 years of leadership experience directly within drug product manufacturing that includes aseptic and sterile filling environments
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Microbiology, Life Sciences, Business or a related field
  • Strong working knowledge of lean concepts and application within a regulated manufacturing environment
  • Effective at working in fast-paced environments, specifically in a leadership capacity to facilitate objective decision making
