Job Details
Summary
The position will primarily focus on the production & characterization of aggregated, 'fibrillizing protein' reagents which are related to neurodegenerative 'proteinopathies'. Examples would be Tau, α-synculcein, TTR, & TDP-43 proteins. The person will develop methods to isolate the different forms of protein aggregates (monomer, oligomer, fibrils, etc.), investigate parameters which affect the misfolding of fibrillizing protein, & generate inventories of these proteins for research programs.
Responsibilities
• Protein expression in E.coli, optimization of expression, & scale-up
• Purify recombinant protein using ÄKTA chromatography equipment with methods such as affinity, ion exchange, size exclusion, & reverse phase
• Organize & present data for weekly meetings & for larger, departmental groups
• Carry out large scale production of fibrillizing proteins
• Process fibrillizing protein mixtures to isolate & characterize the different sizes & forms of aggregates & then create inventories of the isolated aggregate forms
• Collaborate with other groups to share data/results & tailor experiments to meet project goals
• Keep up-to-date with current literature in the field to further develop scientific expertise & stay aware of important findings which
can be used in our research
