Job Details
We are seeking a highly motived Scientist with a background in cellular/molecular biology to join AbbVie's Foundational Neuroscience in vitro Pharmacology team in Cambridge, MA. This individual will develop cell assays and conduct genomic and compound screens using manual and automated methods to contribute to early target identification and validation in our neurodegenerative disease drug discovery programs. The successful applicant should have extensive bench research experience and enjoy a laboratory-focused role in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary team setting.

Key Responsibilities Include:
- Select, develop and perform quantitative cell culture assays using biochemical and imaging readouts to meet project team requirements.
- Develop precise lab automation methods to achieve higher throughput, including troubleshooting and customization.
- Execute developed assays at low or high throughput.
- Collect, analyze and interpret data in appropriate scientific context.
- Carefully document results in databases and in written and oral scientific reports.
Position will be hired based on level of experience.
- BS or MS in Neuroscience, biochemistry, cellular/molecular biology, or related field with typically 3-5+ (BS) or 0-2+(MS) years of experience.
- Extensive expertise in mammalian cell culture, transfection/virus transduction and immunocytochemistry is required. Primary cell isolation and culture is a plus.
- Molecular techniques such as PCR, RNA isolation and QPCR are required. CRISPR experience is a plus.
- Expertise with biochemical techniques such as western blot and ELISA is required.
- Experience with lab robotics and automation is desired.
- Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in high throughput assays, e.g. experience with 96-well or 384-well format.
- Must demonstrate the ability to design experiments, troubleshoot and think independently.
- Strong communication and organizational skills, especially the ability to work across multiple scientific disciplines and functions are preferred.
- Candidates with scientific rigor, meticulousness, who are motivated to learn new concepts and techniques, are preferred.
- Also preferred is industrial experience in early drug discovery including the identification of small molecules and/or biologic reagents, to validate targets.
