Amgen is seeking a Director of Social Media and Digital Strategy, based at our corporate campus located in Thousand Oaks, California. The Director will report directly to the Executive Director of Corporate Affairs.

Consistent with the vision of Amgen Corporate Affairs to "proactively shape, drive and enhance the Amgen brand and reputation globally," the Director of Social Media and Digital, internally known as the Director of Corporate Affairs, will be responsible for driving the social media and digital strategy at the corporate / enterprise level to achieve this vision.

Key responsibilities of the Director of Social Media and Digital Strategy include:
  • Leads social media and digital strategy at the corporate level for owned media channels
  • Develops and builds a mature social media capability to enhance reputation and achieve business objectives
  • Owns global alignment of digital and social channels with regional interdependencies
    Strategic advisor to the organization on social media and digital content excellence and best practices
  • Establishes and regulates Amgen's brand voice on social media
  • Ensures optimized use of existing corporate digital and social media channels globally
  • Builds new social media channels (or consolidates existing channels) as appropriate
  • Manages small team of social media storytellers to actively develop content
  • Works with reputation team to leverage social listening insights to inform content development
  • Works with media team to amplify earned content and news release announcements
  • Stays abreast of emerging trends in social media and digital
  • Leverages research on trends and stakeholder preferences


Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree and 4 years of Social Media and/or Journalism and/or Corporate Communications and/or Marketing experience

OR

Master's degree and 8 years of Social Media and/or Journalism and/or Corporate Communications and/or Marketing experience

OR

Bachelor's degree and 10 years of Social Media and/or Journalism and/or Corporate Communications and/or Marketing experience

AND

4 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 10+ years' experience in Social Media or Digital Strategy
  • Experience launching new social media platforms and websites and aligning a global organization to those activities
  • Ability to filter, prioritize and validate content coming from across the organization and around the world
  • Experience coaching and developing high-performing direct reports responsible for content development as well as leading and influencing a broader global organization
  • Capable of working with multiple stakeholders to relentlessly simplify and optimize complex systems and structures
  • Handle pressure and demands from multiple internal clients with competing priorities
  • Experience with quick turnaround time (same day content creation and publishing)
  • Operate in a way that is science-based, using data to inform content development
  • Model ethical behavior to teams and colleagues in the production and development of external content on social channels
