The Facilities Maintenance and Engineering (FME) Directorate is responsible for laboratory space, administrative space, infrastructure, campus landscape, planning, and design, and construction management at Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research.

KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES-THIS POSITION IS CONTINGENT UPON FUNDING APPROVAL

  • Erects and moves standard industrial equipment; compressors, pumps, shakers, blowers, centrifuges and large electric motors
  • Examines equipment in operation to determine if adjustments are adequate or if repair is necessary
  • Performs complete overhaul on air compressors, refrigeration compressors, and other equipment into proper position
  • Levels bases, operates forklifts, prepares saddles, pulleys and jacks to move or place equipment into proper position
  • Installs a variety of laboratory machinery and equipment
  • Disassemble and repair a variety of industrial equipment; read blueprints and work orders; follow standard practices and craft techniques in installing, maintaining and repairing industrial equipment
  • Adheres to safety practices in the industrial equipment trade


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Possession of high school diploma or equivalent
  • In addition to educational requirements, a minimum of five (5) years of craft-related experience
  • Ability to disassemble and repair a variety of industrial equipment
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints and work orders
  • Ability to follow standard practices and craft techniques in installing, maintaining and repairing industrial equipment
  • Ability to perform physical duties including:
    Lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs.
    Walking, standing, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, and working in confined areas, potential exposure to
    particulates, vapors or noisy environment
  • Must have and maintain a valid State Driver's License issued by the state in which candidate resides
  • Per policy, must have no more than 3 demerit points in the previous twelve (12) months or five (5) demerit points in the preceding thirty-six (36) months
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

 

 

  • Experience with safety practices in the trade
  • Experience with industrial construction/support equipment
  • Knowledge of basic mechanical principles used in vacuum pumps, electric motors, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment, and a variety of industrial equipment
