Senior Scientist I, Cancer Biology

Primary Job Function:

AbbVie Oncology Discovery is seeking a talented cell/molecular biologist to join our Cancer Biology Discovery team. The successful candidate will participate in the design and execution of high quality lab-based studies supporting the discovery and development of new cancer therapeutics. As part of a multidisciplinary research team in a fast-paced discovery environment, applicants should have extensive laboratory research experience and a desire to continue in a laboratory-focused role with a high level of experimental vigor and quality. Because the individual will interact with diverse groups of experts within and outside of his/her scientific discipline, strong communication and teamwork skills are essential.

Basic:

• BS, MS, or Ph.D. in Cancer Biology, Cell/Molecular Biology, or related field
• 10+ years (BS), 8+ years (MS), or 0+ (PhD) years post-graduate experience in Cancer Biology, Cell/Molecular Biology, or related field
• Demonstrated expertise in functional characterization of tumor oncogenes/suppressors, with a focus on cancer genetics and functional genomics preferred.
• Record of scientific achievement (i.e. strong publication and/or patent record) and proficiency in standard biochemical, cellular and molecular techniques.
• Ability to thrive in a collaborative, matrix-based team environment and strong written and oral communication skills are essential.
• Previous experience in pharmaceutical drug discovery is preferred but not required.

• Strong background in cancer biology
• Impactful research experience demonstrated by high-quality publications, patents and/or presentations at national/international conferences
• Previous experience in drug discovery, either in academic or industrial setting
