The Quantitative Biology department is a central, critical element of our research engine at Arcus. In 2019 we are expanding the scope and size of this team, with positions available immediately for self-motivated, collaborative and highly skilled individuals.

We currently seek an experienced PI to lead our Protein Sciences and Molecular Biology Core group. This is a rare opportunity to further a career in a fast-paced clinical stage company as a key member of our first‑class scientific team. The successful candidate will be expected to balance work in the laboratory with oversight for all our core molecular biology work as well as leading protein expression, purification and characterization efforts. Over time the group is anticipated to grow under the guidance of the new PI to include implementation of newer technologies identified as important to our Discovery efforts (for example, gene editing, ITC, SPR etc).

A key responsibility of the position will be to coordinate the group’s work and priorities with other constituencies across research. This includes routinely advising senior management on effectively leveraging existing capabilities within the group as well as identifying appropriate new technologies and approaches to bring in-house.

Qualifications:

  • The ideal candidate will possess a quantitative Life Sciences Ph.D. (biochemistry, pharmacology, enzymology, biophysics, etc.) with at least 8 years of relevant industry experience. Exceptional candidates with extensive histories of industrial success may also be considered.
  • A demonstrated track record of effectively introducing relevant new technologies to a company environment is expected.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with standard molecular biology and protein science techniques is an absolute requirement (i.e. plasmid design and generation, bacterial, insect and mammalian protein expression and purification approaches etc.). Experience with NGS and gene editing would be an advantage.
  • Effective leadership, presentation and teamwork skills paired with strong detail-orientated science will be a primary determinant of success in this role.
  • Careful record-keeping is paramount. This involves ensuring that the group’s experimental records are accurate, current, detailed and accessible and includes providing significant strategic and design input into the development of new data management and analysis systems with the informatics and IT experts.
