Data Scientist Statistical Programming, Clinical Development

Omeros is seeking an experienced Data Scientist to join a growing Clinical Development Biometrics group. This is a unique and dynamic opportunity within an analytics team to collaborate with cross-functional teams and leadership to support commercial product strategy; advance development projects; create insights that shape our research and development paths, as well as the future of clinical practice; and help to establish best practices for these activities.

This position reports to the Director of Statistical Programming. As a Data Scientist, you will fuel data-driven decision making by extracting knowledge from a variety of clinical and medical databases. The successful candidate has solid understanding of biostatistical and epidemiological methodologies for clinical studies; strong hands-on technical skills with a variety of analytic methods and data visualization tools; the ability to interpret business and scientific needs; and a passion for working with customers to design and implement enlightening data displays and solutions.

You will work with diverse source data, including from clinical trials, investigator-initiated trials, electronic medical records and real-world data. A keen ability to digest and assess the suitability of data sources will be vital. Through these novel activities, you will contribute, as well, to organizational best practices and procedures to ensure high-quality and reproducible results.

Who is Omeros?

Omeros is a commercial-stage biopharmaceutical company committed to discovering, developing and commercializing small-molecule and protein therapeutics for large-market as well as orphan indications targeting inflammation, complement-mediated diseases and disorders of the central nervous system.

The company's drug product OMIDRIA® (phenylephrine and ketorolac injection) 1% / 0.3% is marketed in the U.S. for use during cataract surgery or intraocular lens (IOL) replacement to maintain pupil size by preventing intraoperative miosis (pupil constriction) and to reduce postoperative ocular pain. In the European Union, the European Commission has approved OMIDRIA for use in cataract surgery and other IOL replacement procedures to maintain mydriasis (pupil dilation), prevent miosis (pupil constriction), and to reduce postoperative eye pain.

Omeros has multiple Phase 3 and Phase 2 clinical-stage development programs focused on: complement-associated thrombotic microangiopathies; complement-mediated glomerulonephropathies; Huntington's disease and cognitive impairment; and addictive and compulsive disorders. In addition, Omeros has a diverse group of preclinical programs and a proprietary G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) platform through which it controls 54 new GPCR drug targets and corresponding compounds, a number of which are in preclinical development. The company also exclusively possesses a novel antibody-generating platform.

What are your job responsibilities?

  • Collaborate with and contribute to cross-functional projects to understand and enhance knowledge of disease, clinical experience and performance of commercial and investigational therapies
  • Work with clinicians and scientists to surface scientific questions and hypotheses, and to understand the evidence needs of research and development, as well as regulatory and medical affairs.
  • Develop and organize a comprehensive understanding of our data assets and apply that understanding to advance cross-functional objectives
  • A keen understanding of the appropriate use of data assets at various stages of clinical development ensures best practices, and adherence to clinical and regulatory requirements
  • Curate novel databases and provision data as needed for cross-functional projects
  • Design analyses suitable for data from various sources, collected with various intensions and objectives in a variety of clinical settings
  • Advise cross-functional partners on suitable analysis methods
  • Design and deliver high-quality and highly-communicative data displays
  • Communicate findings to internal and external partners through a variety of media
  • Bachelor's degree in an analytic field with a minimum of 5 years of analytics experience in a pharmaceutical, biotech, CRO setting or other clinical research setting
  • Extensive hands-on experienced implementing analyses and analytics applications using SAS and related software such as R and Python; experience to include: Program edit checks, create SAS data structures, upload data transfers to and from contracted studies with CROs and/or other vendors
  • Technical excellence with SAS and SQL. Expertise with R, Python or a similar programming and data display languages is desirable.
  • A strong background in statistical concepts and calculations, infrastructure design, and data warehousing
  • Strong analytic and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work through ambiguity to deliver impactful deliverables
  • Hands-on and versatile team player that is comfortable under pressure and engaging with corporate leadership
  • Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with internal and external partners, including leadership, management, peers, stakeholders and collaborators in clinical and scientific communities
  • Ability to partner with both technical and functional groups
  • Attention to detail, and strong record of delivering high-quality results on time
  • Excellent interpersonal, and verbal and written communication skills
