Mass Spectrometry/Proteomics Scientist

The company

Inzen Therapeutics is a privately held, early-stage biotechnology company exploring cell turnover, an untapped area of human biology.  Turnover is a central event in health and disease, impacting nearly every cell in the body and occurring more than 30 billion times per hour. Our mission is to pioneer a novel category of drugs based on manipulating cellular turnover for the treatment of cancer, immune and fibrotic diseases, and regenerative processes.

Inzen Therapeutics was founded by Flagship Pioneering, an institute dedicated to the origination and development of first-in-category life sciences companies.  Since 2000, Flagship has originated and fostered the development of nearly 100 scientific ventures resulting in $20+ billion in aggregate value, 500+ issued patents, and more than 50 clinical trials for novel therapeutic agents.

The position

Inzen Therapeutics offers the opportunity to work at a big concept biotechnology company. We are seeking a Ph.D. scientist with expertise in mass spectrometry and proteomics to join our our team with the goal of establishing and prosecuting Inzen’s mass spectrometry and analytical platforms to advance our research programs from early discovery to proof-of-concept and beyond. We are searching for enthusiastic, innovative, and highly motivated individuals with a passion for pursuing scientific research aimed at bringing novel medicines to patients. Successful candidates should be scientifically motivated self-starters, comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and capable of working independently in generating, processing, and interpreting mass spectrometry data.  The position is based in Manhattan, New York.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement state of the art mass spectrometry based analytic techniques to identify, characterize, and quantify proteins, peptides, and small molecules.
  • Maintain all mass spectrometry instrumentation and required analytical software.
  • Work with collaborators, both internal and external, to effectively generate data and communicate results to the senior leadership.
  • Work with the internal LIMS system to effectively track all mass spec experiments.
  • Proactively evaluate new technologies, be well-versed with current literature, and implement new methods into the mass spectrometry assay/analytical pipeline as necessary.

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in biochemistry, biology, chemical biology or related field.
  • Experience with the preparation/analysis of most or all of the following techniques: quantitative bottom-up proteomics (SILAC, TMT, LFQ, etc), top-down proteoform characterization, targeted proteomics, clinical proteomics (serum/plasma analysis, preparation of tissue samples), peptidomics, ultra-sensitive proteomics (sample prep on low µg/ng amounts of protein).
  • Experience with Thermo-Fisher mass spectrometers such as the Lumos or QE.
  • Extensive knowledge of analytical software for the processing and interpretation of mass spectrometry data including manual interpretation of fragmentation data; familiarity with programming languages and database software being a plus.
  • Experience with small molecule/metabolomic data analysis a plus.
  • Demonstrated success and creativity as evidenced by a strong record of scientific accomplishment.
  • A desire to be a significant presence and leader in a laboratory setting, being involved in both the design and downstream prosecution of efforts resulting from your data.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills are required.
  • A sense of adventure and excitement to build a new drug discovery paradigm and work in a highly dynamic team environment.
