Star Therapeutics is a private biotechnology company focused on transforming the lives of patients with serious and life-threatening rare diseases. We seek an experienced Clinical leader to help advance a pipeline of innovative therapies spanning multiple therapeutic areas.
Summary:
The Chief Medical Officer will be integral to setting the strategic direction for clinical development at the company. The candidate will report to and work in close collaboration with the CEO. The candidate must have extensive senior leadership experience in clinical development and translational research in the biotechnology/pharmaceutical industry. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the drug development process and a demonstrated track record of translating preclinical programs into proof-of-concept studies and beyond.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the company’s clinical and regulatory strategy, including clinical trial design and interacting with numerous regulatory authorities
- Advance programs forward from preclinical stage to late clinical stage, utilizing a strong translational research skillset
- Contribute to the design and analysis of natural history studies to better understand our diseases of interest
- Responsible for clinical data review, analysis, and interpretation from a variety of sources to enable program go/no-go decisions
- Demonstrate strong people management skills, leading by example and working with teams to manage multiple projects
- Actively seek and lead clinical collaborations with external partners
- Represent the company both internally and externally, with both the clinical and business communities
Prerequisites:
- 10+ years of relevant experience at biotechnology/pharmaceutical company, with experience leading clinical development and translational research
- Prior experience working at one or more smaller, fast-paced biotech companies
- MD or MD/PhD
- Deep scientific and medical knowledge, with demonstrated contributions that have led to clinical successes
- Previous experience managing direct reports with a proven track record of developing clinical leaders
- Ability to manage complexity and ambiguity in a fast-paced work environment
- Experience working with key opinion leaders, with strong interpersonal capabilities
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and lead cross-functional teams
- Excellent verbal and written communication (both technical writing and PowerPoint)
- Experience in strategic planning and project leadership
