CORPORATE COUNSEL, CONTRACTS

Position Summary:

The Corporate Counsel, Contracts will be responsible for preparing, reviewing, and negotiating a wide variety of contracts at Global Blood Therapeutics (GBT). This position will also provide legal support for general corporate and other functional areas as needed. The Corporate Counsel, Contracts will report to the Vice President, Corporate Law.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and negotiate a wide variety of contracts typical in the biopharmaceutical industry
  • Take a practical approach to contracts focused on business and stakeholder needs
  • In coordination with the Vice President, Corporate Law, the Contracts Manager and the broader Legal team, work closely with departments and stakeholders across the organization to identify and articulate contract issues, provide practical advice, become a trusted partner and ensure efficient and effective completion of contracts
  • Provide legal advice and support regarding a range of activities and programs (functional client groups to be selected based on business need and candidate experience/preference)
  • Ability to manage and prioritize work to meet business demands
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment

Qualifications:
  • J.D. degree is required
  • Must have at least 5-7 years of experience preparing and negotiating contracts, with a preference for experience in the biopharmaceutical or life sciences industry
  • Preference for deep experience in at least one area of biopharmaceutical contracting (e.g., R&D, commercial, etc.), and broad experience with a range of standard contracts (e.g., service agreements, CDAs etc.)
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills and commitment to customer service approach
  • Experience with contracts management systems preferred
  • Must be highly organized and flexible
  • Must be attentive to details while balancing with larger business and strategic needs
  • Must be able to take initiative, be accountable, make good decisions, demonstrate good judgment and be a pragmatic problem solver
  • Must have excellent written and oral communication, negotiation and drafting skills
