Amgen is seeking a Commercial Transformation Director at our corporate campus located in Thousand Oaks, California. The Commercial Transformation Director, internally known as a Business Performance Director, supports critical change initiatives for the Commercial organization. The Director will report to the Executive Director and Head of Commercial Transformation group.

The Commercial Transformation Group partners with the Commercial leadership and subject matter experts to diagnose pain points, co-create solutions and successfully execute the highest priority efforts to enable growth and improve productivity across commercial. Areas of transformation include capability building, technology and process improvements, and culture change.

The Director will be a team lead or a liaison for initiatives, as well as be a coach and mentor to others. He/she will gather, analyze, and synthesize cross-functional information across a variety of sources to turn unstructured business issues and requests into appropriate action plans and projects that result in high quality, meaningful and actionable deliverables. The incumbent will also provide reports and presentations that clearly summarize status, issues, implications and recommendations to key stakeholders to inform and communicate decision making. In addition, the Director may be asked to lead and/or participate in cross-functional projects. Successful candidates will spend ~18-30 months working on a portfolio of commercial transformation initiatives before transitioning into commercial leadership roles (e.g., sales and marketing, value and access, digital, innovation, etc.), or other areas of the business.

Key Responsibilities of the Commercial Transformation Director will include:
  • Provides expertise in transformation methodologies appropriate for the objective
  • Coaches / mentors other liaisons or subject matter expertise within commercial to build transformation capabilities
  • Acts as a strategic architect, helping to construct and choreograph the commercial transformation portfolio
  • Serves as an integrator across multiple commercial and Amgen-wide transformation efforts
  • Acts as a thought partner to transformation team leaders, commercial leadership and other liaisons
  • Provides planning, logistical support, and project management
  • Ensures transformation project success, by managing risks, removing roadblocks, and appropriately and quickly escalating issues
  • Plans and facilitates workshops and governance discussions, objectively
  • Drives the development and evolution of the initiative plan and timely execution of initiative milestones
  • Builds and maintains strong relationships with stakeholders; proactively seek buy-in and providing on-going support to address business needs
  • Constructively challenges teams by providing disconfirming information and encouraging innovative problem solving
  • Adapts and thrives in a rapidly changing and fast-moving environment


Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree and 4 years of Scientific and/or Operations and/or Business (i.e. Management Consulting) experience
OR
Master's degree and 8 years of Scientific and/or Operations and/or Business (i.e. Management Consulting) experience
OR
Bachelor's degree and 10 years of of Scientific and/or Operations and/or Business (i.e. Management Consulting) experience
AND
4 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Strong background in biopharma commercial operating roles (e.g., global marketing lead, commercial strategy, brand management) and change management
  • 5+ years' of experience in Biotechnology / Pharmaceutical industry, with a focus in strategic marketing
  • 6+ years' of cross-functional consulting and/or project management experience
  • Experience at a top-tier management consulting firm
  • Strong presence with senior executives
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including ability to storyline and prepare executive-level discussion documents
  • Excellent conceptual problem-solving skills with demonstrated ability to bring structure to vaguely defined problems, pragmatically scope problem solving approach, and manage execution
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative analytic skills
  • Strong leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to influence different styles
  • Experience as a member of a high performing team
