Summary
Using scientific expertise and project management knowledge and experience, the Manager, Research Program Management plans, coordinates, and leads cross-functional and operational aspects of the drug discovery process, from early-discovery through early clinical development. A key responsibility is to support the Ophthalmology Therapeutic Focus Area where a diverse set of technologies and approaches are being explored to identify new targets and to develop strategies for treating ophthalmologic diseases.

Responsibilities
Drug and Technology Discovery & Development:
Uses knowledge and experience in drug discovery and technology to steer and enable cross-functional teams to achieve key program objectives. In collaboration other senior group members, formulates key program deliverables and implements operational practices to achieve these deliverables.

Team Management:
Ensures effective, accurate, appropriate and timely communication across functional areas within the project. Serves as point of contact for management within and outside the team regarding progress and alignment with the program goals. Uses relevant working knowledge and experience to devise templates, working and best practices, and tracking and monitoring tools.

Planning, Tracking & Project Reporting:
Develops, maintains and updates integrated project plans relevant to team objectives and ensures alignment across functions and with management. Maintains knowledge of key data and milestones for assigned projects and serves as a contact for information and updates. Provides project summaries and general guidelines to support presentations to senior management and collaborators as needed.

Process and Data Management:
Manages and updates tools and program content to track projects and to promote a collaborative environment of scientific information exchange. Ensures effective, accurate and timely communication within the department or functional area. Defines and documents best practices and procedures by performing analyses and preparing recommendations. Identifies, develops and supports continuous improvement processes.

Problem Solving:
Identifies opportunities and develops tools and mechanisms for monitoring progress and for general problem solving within the function or department.

Requirements:
Knowledge of project management techniques and concepts as they apply to the drug development / pharmaceutical industry. Action oriented, organized, and able to lead teams through collaborative engagement. Demonstrates excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with team members with tact and diplomacy. Coordinates and provides direction for multiple projects and priorities with excellent time management skills. Proficient in relevant software such as MS Project, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc. in addition to general knowledge of shared content work environments. Experience with Visio and database systems a plus.

Minimum Years of Experience: BS with 7+ years of related experience in program management and technology and drug discovery and development. Advanced degree (e.g., PhD or MS plus MBA) preferred.
