Job Details

The Immunology Discovery organization is responsible for identification of new therapeutic approaches for the treatment of autoimmune diseases. We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Scientist III/ Principal Scientist based in Worcester, MA reporting to the Director of Pharmacology.

We are seeking a dynamic and innovative in vivo pharmacologist to guide the development and implementation of mechanism of action studies, PK/PD, biomarker and pharmacology assessments across a range of preclinical model systems. Expert knowledge in immunology, especially in the area of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and the design and conduct of both in vitro and in vivo models of autoimmunity and inflammation are essential.

The successful candidate will lead a group of scientists in the Immunology Pharmacology Department. Some key responsibilities include:
  • Provide strong scientific, technical, and organizational leadership to drive IBD/GI disease drug discovery and related immunology disease areas
  • Provide detailed knowledge of the pathophysiologic mechanisms of IBD disease and apply this knowledge to implement new concepts and methodologies for the development of drug candidates
  • Drive excellent performance of group by effectively managing both direct and indirect reports including recruiting, managing, mentoring and developing scientific staff
  • Contribute to defining research team goals by collaborating with scientists within and outside functional area
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the desire to succeed in a collaborative work environment are required


Position will be hired based on level of experience.

  • BS, MS, PhD, DVM, or equivalent in biological sciences with 14-16+ (BS), 12-14+ (MS), or 6-8+ (PhD, DVM) years of postdoctoral/industry experience
  • Established track record of successful drug development experience.
  • Recognized pharmacology leader with in-depth knowledge of in vitro and in vivo model systems and the ability to build PK/PD correlations
  • Experience in managing direct reports and development of scientific staff with positive team building and teamwork skills
  • Evidence of strategic thinking and portfolio management a plus
  • Ability to manage and maintain scientific business relationships and to establish contract research agreements
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent publication record
