Position Overview

Nektar Therapeutics is looking for an exceptional Scientist II to join the In Vitro Pharmacology, Research Biology team in our San Francisco office.

The successful candidate will be responsible for driving in vitro and ex vivo functional characterization and mechanism of action studies for small and large molecule drug candidates in a variety of disease areas, including autoimmune disease and immuno-oncology.

This individual will lead the design and execution of biochemical and cell-based assays to support early discovery and preclinical development of pipeline assets. The candidate is expected to contribute at the bench as well as at strategic levels. We are seeking someone who is an expert in relevant experimental biology techniques, including: biochemical and cell-based functional assays, ELISA, qPCR, and flow cytometry. Experience with in vitro immunology models, including isolation and characterization of primary immune cells, is desirable. A strong immunology background is required, with immuno-oncology experience a plus. This individual will have opportunities to interpret and communicate experimental findings to project teams and senior management. The scientist may lead discovery teams, as necessary, act as a Pharmacology functional representative on a team, as well as manage junior scientists and research associates. This position contributes to and supports the company's research and development efforts to create high value therapeutics to address unmet medical needs.

A PhD in a scientific discipline is required. Equivalent experience may be accepted. A minimum of 8 years work experience in a research and/or development environment is required. Post-doctoral work may serve as experience. Exceptional non-PhDs with demonstrated capabilities and/or significant experience may also be considered. Prior experience in immunology is needed.
