Amgen is seeking a Senior Associate Data Scientist on the Digital Integration & Predictive Technologies team to be based out of one of our major operations locations: Thousand Oaks, CA, Cambridge, MA, West Greenwich, RI, Tampa, FL, Juncos, PR, or Dun Laoghaire, Ireland.

We are pursuing highly motivated, early career candidates with a passion for data analytics, statistical modeling, machine learning, and advanced digital or computational technologies to join our team. The successful candidate will participate in Amgen's ongoing digital transformation efforts and will be given opportunities to apply his/her expertise to enhance the way data is used to inform and make decisions at Amgen. Emphasis will be placed on using statistical modeling and machine learning techniques to advance Amgen's real-time process monitoring system - a global platform with ~1000 users across Amgen's manufacturing network - to reveal opportunities for process control, optimization, and improved decision-making.

The Senior Associate Data Scientist will also lead and participate in a variety of other modeling efforts to address interesting challenges and unmet needs throughout Amgen's Operations organization. This is a unique opportunity to apply cutting-edge techniques to fundamentally change the way Amgen develops and manufactures drugs to better serve our patients. No prior biotechnology experience is necessary.

Amgen's Digital Integration and Predictive Technologies organization is a global Process Development function that develops and deploys advanced computational technologies in: 1) data capture, integration, management and predictive analytics, 2) empirical and first principles modeling towards improved process understanding and robustness, 3) monitoring, control, prediction and optimization of manufacturing, and 4) advanced sensors and automatic model predictive control. We are a diverse, collaborative, tightly-knit and fun team, with partnerships spanning the organizational structure and globe.

Responsibilities of the Senior Associate Data Scientist include:
  • Developing, enhancing, automating, and managing models across Amgen's Operations organization
  • Advancing Amgen's real-time monitoring platform toward advanced process control and optimization
  • Creating striking visualizations to aid in data interpretation and usage
  • Understanding business needs and developing novel yet practical solutions to meet those needs
  • Exploring and evaluating new tools and techniques to improve the way data is used to generate useful insights
  • Delivering technical presentations and trainings to stakeholders and executive audiences
  • 20% travel within the Amgen network is necessary


Basic Qualifications:

Master's degree

OR

Bachelor's degree and 2+ years of Data Science and/or relevant experience

Preferred Skills:
  • Experience building models and developing algorithms for machine learning, statistics, optimization, or simulation
  • Proficiency in multiple programming languages, particularly Python and R
  • Ability to communicate findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Passion for proactively identifying opportunities through creative data analysis and modeling
  • Intellectual curiosity with ability to learn new concepts, algorithms and technology rapidly as needs arise
  • Ability to manage multiple, competing priorities simultaneously
  • Ability to deliver work and provide positive partnership in a fast-paced, multi-project, team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to work in highly collaborative, cross-functional environments
