The Amgen Biologics Optimization group is seeking a highly motivated Senior Associate Scientist to join the Protein Biochemistry team at our state-of-the-art research facility in Thousand Oaks, CA. The Biologics Optimization group is responsible for the optimization, production, assessment, and selection of large molecule therapeutic drug candidates. The Sr. Associate Scientist will be a part of a multidisciplinary team with capabilities in protein engineering, cloning, expression and purification of large molecule drug candidates.

The Sr. Associate Scientist will apply their scientific expertise to assist in the identification and optimization of promising therapeutic candidates to treat serious illnesses and advance Amgen's mission to serve patients.


Apply protein biochemistry expertise to purify and analyze therapeutic drug candidates.

Drive innovation through the development of novel processes that increase capabilities, speed, throughput and/or quality.

Generate scientific data to support generation of publications, patents, or regulatory submissions; participate in internal and external scientific outreach.

Basic Qualifications:

Master's degree and 3 years of scientific experience


Bachelor's degree and 5 years of experience

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with protein purification, particularly biologic molecules

Expertise with a variety of chromatography techniques, liquid chromatography instrumentation (FPLC) and software (Unicorn, ChromLab)

Familiarity with protein analytical techniques (HPLC, MCE, etc...) and analysis software (Chromeleon, LabChip)

Knowledge of high throughput purification and analytical techniques is a plus

Ability to multi-task, work flexibly and efficiently in a cross-functional environment

Strong communication and interpersonal skills
